Hello mamas,

I really need some help, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my second baby, and hate it so far....I know this may be shocking, but I feel so miserable that I can't even be happy about being pregnant!! I have nausea all day long, feeling extremely tired, and my patience is 0. I tried everything : Ginger teas, ginger ale, sea bands, Zantac....nothing seem to help. The thought of this going on for another month or may be more scares.
Has any of you tried something that really helped.....please I'm desperate and hate being the way I'm especially to my toddler and husband!

Thanks

Iced chai tea, without any sugar. I was soooo ridiculously sick for 5 months,I couldnt eat ANYTHING without throwing up and then after a doctors appointment one afternoon my husband wanted to eat Indian food. I agreed because no matter what i ate i couldnt keep it down anyway, but while i was eating I started to feel AMAZING. better than I could ever remember feeling. after that we ate indian food at least two or three times a week.

sounds so weird but it really worked.

Hi C L,

The only thing that worked for my morning sickness were those suckers and candies that are designed for morning sickness. They helped quite a bit!

Best of Luck!

Zofran Zofran Zofran!!!!!
I was sick for the 1st 14 weeks of pregnancy - violently ill & throwing up & in bed the entire time & lost 10 lbs.......as soon as they put me on Zofran the 15th week I got up & went house hunting the same day. If I missed a dose I was sick within 20 minutes. I basically was on it for the entire 9 mos. Gave birth & never needed it again. It's a miracle drug & very safe for baby........only downside is major constipation. Drink tons of water & eat fiber :)

Zofran, ask your dr. for a prescription. It is an anti nausea medication. It was the only thing that worked for me. It got me through my first 4 moths of pregnancy. It is expensive though, your insurance should pay for at least 15 per 30 days. If you don't have insurance try phenergan. It is also an anti nausea medication that is cheeper. My morning (all day) sickness was really bad so I went straight for the zofran. Good luck. P.S. Fast food seemed to help me for some reason.. this sounds terrible but a coke, onion rings, a grilled cheese sandwich, or hamburger always helped me. Sorry... I know what you are going through and it is terrible.

I was soooooo sick as I was pregnant with twins. My OBGYN suggested a combination of vitamin B6 and 1/2 a Unisom tablet. I know this sounds weird, but you can look on the internet about it. IT WORKS!!!!!!! There is something about the combination that works, it is perfectly safe, and it just so happened to ALSO help with my insomnia.

Good luck!!! Call and talk to the nurse at your OBGYN's office and they can tell you how much B6 to take because I forget.

I'm right there with you! I'm currently 7w3d and have been experiencing "morning sickness" since week 5. I recommend you trying vitamin B6 with 1/2 unisom (the tablet form, not the gel tab...they are 2 different meds). Take 50mg of B6 in the morning & 25 mg at night with 1/2 unisom. It completely got rid of my nausea up until 5 days ago. Unfortunately, I think my "morning sickness" is starting to get worse as it doesn't seem to be helping anymore, but maybe it will be all it takes for you. I'm going to give mine a couple more days & if it continues to worsen, then I'm definitely calling the doc for a prescription. I've got to do something...my family & job require me to be able to function.

Talk to your Dr. I was also very sick with my last pregnancy and like you I tried ginger tea and ginger candy without much relief. My Dr. prescribed Zofran to take during the day since it doesn't make you drowsy and Phenergan to take at night since it does make you drowsy, but lasts all day and for me even into the morning. It was like a miracle. Those meds helped me get through those first several months of morning sickness. I started taking them less and less until not at all as my morning sickness resolved. Also, if you're taking a pre-natal vitamin try taking it at night or take a chewable Flinstone vitamin instead. The prenatals can make your nausea worse. Good luck and Congrats!

I had HG with 2 of my pregnancies. I was hospitalized with my last child. be careful to not get to that point.make sure your doc knows so he can monitor you and take you seriously. Zofran helped me, but, only after losing 20 lbs (when I was only 125 pre-pregnancy) and boing hospitalized as my first doc had no experience with treating HG. Good Luck. It does pass.

Oh goodness, I'm so sorry. I went through the same thing. I hated the term "morning sickness" because there was nothing "morning" about it! It was 24-hour-a-day nausea and exhaustion! Other than sleeping whenever possible, I ate if there was something that finally sounded good to me. I tried those "preggy pops" which really don't do much, but it was nice to suck on a lollipop sometimes. I also tried ginger altoids, they helped somewhat. And saltine crackers were a staple of mine. Good luck. You WILL get through this, and it is okay for you to feel miserable!

CL,

While it is completely counterintuitive, you must eat. And by that, I mean graze all the time. Keeping things that will absorb the acids in your stomach is key to minimizing the nausea. (That's where the notion of saltine crackers comes in)

With my first two children, (I was 20 and 21) I was ill-informed, had no support group and had no clue how to manage. I puked my way through both pregnancies. With my second two children, I was 33 and 36. I had great support, information and wonderful doctors. That nausea hit me before I was sure that I was expecting. But, I never had to throw up to get past it. I grazed on crackers and cheeses. You will also find several foods to be non-offensive. For me, it was macaroni and cheese as well as potatoes. Beef, I found to be revolting, but could eat fish and chicken.

Another key is the timing of when to take your prenatal vitamins. It is NOT to stop taking them. You and your baby need those. Habit, I suppose, dictates that we take them in the morning. I find all multi-vitamins to be offensive to my stomach, but prenatals are even more so. If there is a time of day when you are able to eat better than others, for me it was immediately after work, (my husband loved it - I came in the door preparing dinner) that is when you should take your vitamin - with the food. It helps tremendously.

Best wishes to you, and for excitement in your anticipated arrival!

The only thing that helped me through both pregnancies was vitamin b6. I believe you can take up to 70mg per day, so you should check on your prenatals to see how much is already in there. Good luck and congrats!

Don't stop taking your prenatals as someone has suggested. I did that and almost had to have a blood transfusion for lack of iron. Instead, ask your doctor for a different brand of prenatals. Some brands actually have an anti nausea ingredient added to them. I believe it is actually B6. If you are taking your prenatals in the morning try taking them at night instead that way you can sleep through most of the nausea. I always had a peppermint in my mouth with my 2nd pregnancy to help with the nausea. Best of luck.

Hi my name is mary and I'm 3 months pregnant too, the resson for you feeling like this is because 1) hormonal changes and 2) lower blood sugar levels during pregnancy. [2] It is likely, however, that morning sickness results from a combination of factors. or your vitamins. But we know their essential for your baby, so i found some candy's that can help you their called b-natal it has vitamin B6 it comes in loli-pops that taste like cherry and theirs little square candy that taste like green apple their very good i tryed it. and their good got to www.b-natal.com or called them to 1877-###-###-#### and you can order from them or you can purchase them @ rite aid if theirs one in your hometown hope you feel better.

i learned in my first pregnancy i must eat when i feel nausiated. crackers, pickles, peanuts, anything just get some more food in your belly. worry about the extra pounds after the baby. try to pick healthy filling foods. fiber one cererals usually arent full of sugar and really filling, oatmeal. get that good meal in the moring and it should help. you can also talk to your doctor and he might prescribe medication. but if you can fix it without medication that is always best. congrats hope you feel better soon. * another momma suggested peppermint oil. i was told to avoid all pepermints because it effected breast feeding.

Vitamin B6 and peppermint oil! A good essential oil of peppermint (not peppermint extract from the grocery store) can help. If you buy it from a good health food store, they should be able to tell you amounts and how to take it.

***ETA THe mama that suggested peppermints affect breastfeeding has it partially true. It's not good to have peppermint oil WHILE breastfeeding, as it can affect your supply. But in the first or second trimester, it won't affect your milk - unless you're currently breastfeeding your toddler. But it won't affect your ability to make milk when the baby is born if you take it right now at 8-13 weeks!

I too had HORRIBLE morning sickness around the clock. I tried all the natural remedies, but the only thing that helped me was Zofran. It took the edge off and gave me some relief. I actually cried (tears of joy) the first time I took it because it was the first time I felt normal in weeks. It did start to lose effectiveness so I tried to only take it for my worst moments. BTW, I took it occasionally during two pregnancies and I had two healthy babies.

Oh, how I feel your pain. I am almost 17 weeks with my third and up until a couple of weeks ago I felt horrible. Nausea and dry heaves 24 hours a day. This has been my worst pregnancy. I am also a midwife and know all the tricks and none helped. You may want to get a prescription for zofran or phenergin. Both are safe in pregnancy and can help you. Also, if you are taking prenatal vitamins. Stop. They can actually make the nausea worse. You can take B6 and unisom at night. This also seems to help a lot of women. Have faith. It will pass.

Consider taking DHA supplements. It is good for the baby and will help your mood. For nausea, I don't have much advice other than don't take vitamins in the morning, eat crackers and bread to help ease the stomach acid, etc.

I experienced the same thing with my 3rd pregnancy...it was awful! I do not like taking medication, but was so desperate. My doc gave me a prescription for Zofran.....it quickly became my new best friend. I would still have some off days but it helped soooo much!!!! It gave me headaches for a few days, but they phased out and the "all day" sickness was at a minimal. Good luck and I hope you feel better!!!

I was like you; I didn't even want to be pregnant anymore (well, sort of). Sounds horrible to some but they haven't been through this. Just some nausea with my first pregnancy but my second and third were debilitating because of it's severity. Ask your OB if she will prescribe you the generic form of Zofran. I DO NOT like taking meds while pregnant but it was that bad. I didn't have Hyperemesis gravidarum but it was no doubt debilitating. I couldn't stay hydrated and I was losing weight. I'm a stay at home mom and couldn't properly care for my toddler when I went through this. If this is the case for you, I would think your doctor would prescribe you the Zofran. Don't take Phenegran, if that is what they offer. All it does is put you to sleep. If you are worried about taking the Zofran, cut the pills in half or thirds so that you are getting a smaller dose. It doesn't help as much but you can at least get food and water down and get out of bed. I hope you get through it soon. btw...have them checked for twins. My second pregnancy was twins and it was far worse than my two single pregnancies.

I have a 22 month old and am pregnant with our second and am 12 weeks. Let me tell you that I was in HELL week 5-10. nausea, MAJOR food aversions and severe moods. I had nothing like it with the first. I just took it day by day and that is all that will help you get through it. Otherwise it's overwhelming -and you sound like you are already. None of the homeopathic remedied worked for nausea this time, or morning sickness (another thing I had worse second time around) so I was going to ask my doctor about a prescription to help with that but within 2 days of my appt it stopped. The rule is that by the end of the first trimester it all subsides.. you are almost there. But if it persists talk to your doc and get help. As for dealing with a toddler, well that makes it harder. Mine is especially active and I stay at home with him. I simply took him for naps and while he seemed a little frustrated it's what mommy needed. And as soon as my husband came home I explained he needed to help out more for the next few weeks till I felt better. Just tell him it's hard and you need the help. If at all possible get some friends to watch your toddler too so you can rest. I don't have that option as family is far away but I still made it through. You can do this! You're never given more than you can handle. Simple but true.. make this your mantra the next few weeks. Good luck and congratulations on the baby!

Decaf ginger latte from Starbucks. Can get expensive though. Try getting a jar of minced ginger and put it in about a cup of boiling water. Then drink that. I know it sounds gross, but sometimes I would just go throw up and it would make me feel better. Sometimes you just need to get those acids out of the stomach.

My husband is having chemo and it make him nauseous. He's drinking ginger ale with splenda from the healthfood section. It's super strong with ginger. He also chews ginger chews and ginger mints. You can get them in the health food section at Kroger. Peppermint and ginger help with nausea and really helped a lot with my 4rth and 5th pregnancies. With my first 3 I drank celestial Seasonings Cinnamon Apple tea (cinnamon also helps for nausea.)

At Whole Foods and some places you may be able to find ginger mints with ginsing. That helps with feeling tired.

Get as much sleep as you can. I found that 12 hours is what I needed to feel somewhat rested and it helps with the nausea too!

B vitamins!!!!!! I can't overemphasize enough. It's commonly known that if you are low in your B vitamins you are much more prone to nausea. That's also why you are so tired. Also, eat small amounts every 2 and a half hours and that will help your blood sugar which will in turn control the nausea. And please talk to your sweet baby and let he or she know that it is wanted, they feel everything you feel. Hang in there, it will totally pass.

Poor you!! I had horrible morning (noon and night) sickness with all four pregnancies. It felt more severe with the girls and lasted for 16 weeks.

Zofran kept me from throwing up, but I still felt nauseated. Strangely, grapefruit helped me a lot. Also try frozen grapes...even frozen fruit pops. Whatever it takes! The smell of peppermint helps...I would literally BATHE with peppermint shower gel and wash my hair with Paul Mitchell Rosemary mint shampoo.

Hi, I can TOTALLY commiserate. I have a 16 month-old, and am 16 weeks along now. With both, I was really sick the first trimester, and I know it sounds terrible, but there were days I just wished I was dead. I tried all the different things, prescriptions, wrist bands, smelling lemons, ginger anything, vitamin concoctions, and on.

The only thing that worked for me was eating every two to three hours. I even started putting an alarm on my cell phone - crazy, I know, but when you have a toddler, it is so easy to forget about your own needs. Sometimes I was so nauseas that I would practically cry while eating that first snack, but once you get yourself on schedule, you will feel better for most of the day. It is really getting through that first bad time in the morning that is the worst, once you maintain a snacking schedule for the rest of the day, it will help!! Best of luck. Hopefully you aren't too many weeks away from feeling better all the time. I'm in my second tri now, and back to loving life!
