This is my second preganancy and I know they said things would be totally different but I have had some problems that I am not sure if they are related to the pregnancy or not.
The last couple of weeks I have had a fluttering feeling in my chest and shortness of breath, it never last longer than a few seconds but it is uncomfortable. I went to the hospital and they ran all their tests and them some and told me they didn't find anything. I still get short of breath easy and I have been real weak and wear out easy through this whole pregnancy, I am 16 weeks along at the moment. Has anyone else had similar problems or is this something I should be worried about?

What can I do next?

Have you been tested for any blood clotting disorders? I lost my Victoria to one in oct 25 2006. I am positive for it as well. Not saying you do but better safe than sorry.

It sounds like you may be having panic attacks. Do you feel nervous? Are you feeling a little anxiety? Depression? All these things can lead to a panic attack. Depression can make you very tired.

Hi T., first congrats on the new little one! This is not a diagnosis by any means, just a little tid bit. I too had/have these feelings (this is my 5th pregnancy, and have had them with all the others). I have mentioned it to my ob/gyn with little response and also see a cardiologist (when I'm not pregnant). I started with the cardio doc b/c I was very worried about the feelings in my chest, with testing we found out that I have mitral valve prolapse and this was causing these sensations (I also have a higher than normal heart rate, esp when pregnant). He mentioned this is not uncommon in many pregnant women and not to worry. As with anything, if you experience worsening of your symptoms, swelling, or chest pain, definately seek help pronto. I hope you have a stress free and healthy pregnancy, good luck!

Hi T. :)

It sounds pregnancy related to me. I had exactly the same thing and the doctors checked it out and told me it was just heart palpitations and there was nothing that could be done about it.There are a couple different kinds if I recall correctly. One where your heart actually skips a beat and one where your heart does an extra beat. You may want to study it out on google. Mine was doing an extra beat. You know how your heart takes in blood then pushes it out. Well mine would: take in, push out, take in, TAKE IN AGAIN, push out. One the 2nd take in--it had so much blood in it that the following push out was a little painful. I found that I could lessen it tremendously by eating more pure foods, avoiding additives, non-organic meat and over-processed stuff.
As far as the shortness of breath goes, I did feel a little bit of that with the palpitations but mostly mine was disphram related from the baby pushing up on my diaphram. It got so bad as I progessed that I had to stop bending over to pick things up and bought one of those "reaching devices" for housework LOL! I felt silly but it worked! :)
Anyway--I know it can be a scary feeling, but don't worry--It should go away. I would recommend you simplify and improve your diet a bit. I've found that most things can be helped and even cured by improving your eating habits. :)

Good luck! :)
M.

Has your doctor checked you for anemia? I was anemic for all three of my pregnancies. I would feel lightheaded with a fluttering in my chest and sometimes my heart would race. I also felt out of breath at times and several times I felt like I was going to faint. You may want to ask your doctor to check your blood at your next visit. In the meantime try eating a little more red meat and see if the symptoms improve. It's worth a try! Good luck!

Hi T.!

Yes, I agree with the other posts. I, too, had the fluttering with all 3 of my pregnancies, and the shortness of breath and dizziness, whenever the baby would put pressure on my diaphragm or I would bend over. So, to me, this sounds like it is just another one of those strange symptoms of pregnancy. But also, sounds like you might be a little stressed with how you are on the go so much. Just try to take care of yourself, and definitely express your concerns with your OB/GYN. Take care! And good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

The weekness is somewht normal. just be sure and eat. Eat fruit and vegies as much as possible. The fruit has the carbs you need for energy as well as vitamins and the vegies also have the vitamins you need more of right now. You may need to reduse your hours at work while you are pregnant if you can afford it. Be sure and get 8 to 10m hrs of sleep per night. If you stretch yourself out to much you could put the pregnacy at risk. You could not would. Also I would just get a second professional opinion about the fluttering thing just to put your mind more at ease. The stress of that just adds to everything else. Good luck!

I am now 14 weeks pregnant. But with my first pregnancy my heart fluttered alot. It scared me because I have mitral valve prolapse. My doctor told me that it was normal during pregnancy and said that I should cut back on chocolate, sugar, caffiene. It helped. Shortness of breath I'm pretty sure just comes with being pregnant. I remember reading that it happens just because of all the changes that are happening to our hormones, and blood. If you have time you should start a profile on babycenter.com and it tracks you and your baby each week. The website has an awesome search that will more than likely bring an article up answering this question.

I would bring it up to your ob/gyn. ER doctors son't catch everything. This way if it's a concern to your Dr. he/she can have the tests done in detail.

i had the same problem and my doctor even sent me home with a 48 hour heart monitor that you carry around and he said everything was normal. i know it's a scary feeling but my doctor sai it was nothing excepr maybe my diet or stress or even too much or not enough caffiene but if you really think it is something or you're not sure then ask your doctor for the 48 hour test because that really put me at ease good luck

My second pregnancy I had a lot of the same things. The papatations (heart flutters) were just something that happens sometimes, they told me. What they had me do was keep a record of when, where, what was going on and what I had to eat/drink that day. I was quite a bit more fatigued and got short of breath easily. My daughter had just turned 2 a few months before I got pregnant. I would come home from work to take care of her and couldn't do anything. I'd set her on the toilet and lay on the floor half in the bathroom and halfway into the hallway. It felt like a struggle just to get up and pull her pants back up. The symptoms that you are having can be normal. I would suggest just keeping a detailed record and presenting it to the doctor but not to stress about it since they did all the testing and didn't find anything. The palpatations could be caused by something as simply as a meal with a lot of fat in it.

Hi T.,
I had the fluttering in my chest with my last pregnancy.I had a misscarriage before that pregnancy so it scared the you know what out of me.My ob doctor said it was normal and some people have it I had it happen once in a great while before the pregnancy but after I was pregnant it was all the time.I would lose my breath and have to sit sometimes. It does go away the further along you get.Worring will only cause more harm then good.Talk to your doctor about it.If it does get bad I would go for monitoring at the e.r again or call you doctor right away! Good Luck and Congrats on your little one on the way....H.
