Hi Moms, my daughter is chewing everything she can get her little hands on (including her hands!) so I am wondering if any of you have recommendations for good teethers or teething toys? Her hands are still very little but I want to have some items ready to go for her....thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I just placed an order for a few different varieties (including Sophie and the Nuby necklace) - hopefully she'll like them!

Hi J.,
I used a cold washcloth for my little boy (also an early teether) It was easy for him to hold himself and it's cold and soft. I also hear the Sophie is great. It's lead free and made of rubber. Good luck.

My kids loved the one by The First Years. It was a yellow star on a blue handle and it vibrated ; )

HI J.. My son's favorite chew toy is: Sophie the Giraffe. You can find it on Amazon.
It's the perfect size for little hands and is made of a natural and safe rubber. Good Luck!

Discovery Toys makes one called Super Yummy that has 4 different textured nubs and a handle (it looks kind of like a 4-headed hammer). It is also lightly vanilla scented. Since I'm a consultant (technically), I know they are on backorder right now until "late December". I don't know what happens if you as the customer order online www.discoverytoys.com): whether they'd send it when it is available or if you'd have to wait. If you know anyone who sells Discovery Toys, they might have them on hand because they are pretty popular...you can search for a consultant on the web, but it will only list people who are managers or who pay for the site, so you can ask around, too. My son also really like a toy key ring with rubbery toy keys on it. I think it was Sassy, but it might have been Parents brand at Target.

i used various teething rings and put them in the fridge. we had a bowl of them on hand. one in particular i liked was shaped like a pacifier but the part that goes into the mouuth was a raspberry. the bumps i think felt good to my daughter. we also used pieces of frozen bagels but 3.5 months might be young for that. good luck.

This is going to sound funny but my 6 month old son loves to chew on carrots! My fiance gave him one the other day in a pinch and he loved it! I think because its cold and easier to hold on to than regular teething rings. Its so funny the munch munch munch sound it makes when he's chewing on it. The only thing is, I would not recommend giving a carrot to your daughter unsupervised. I know that without teeth its hard for a baby to get a chunk off of a carrot, but just in case!

I can not think of the name of it off hand, but it vibrates when the child bites on it. My first daughter loved it. If I can think of the brand, I will get back to you.

J.,
Babies like different kinds. My baby didn't take to any traditional teethers. Look for non-toxic with no phthalates. There is one called Sophie the Giraffe. Go to www.thesoftlanding.com They list all the non toxic varieties and just try some out. You will need several anyway.

I like the "Gummy Guppy" by Sassy (I think that's the name of it). It's a multicolored fish with different textures to promote teething/gum stimulation. My daughter loves them!! I also like these teething ducks from Especially for Baby (I found them at Babies R Us). They have a hole in the middle for easy grasping. I've seen them in pink or green - they also come in two packs. Baby keys are also good. I also like the stuffed animals with the teething "paws". It's a lovie that also doubles as a teether. They come in all different animals and each paw has a different texture for the baby to gnaw on/explore. I hope this helps!!

My recomendation is to look for teethers that are narrow enough that your daughter can fit them back into her mouth instead of only being able to chew with the front of the mouth. For example, the typical teething "rings" that are about 3-4 inches around did not satisfy my daughter at all. She prefered the smaller 1-2 inch square, star, and oval shaped teethers that were narrow enough or had corners that she could chew on further back in her mouth. She also really liked her Nuby teething "necklace" (you don't actually wear it). It was a combination of different textured, soft rubber beads, and hard plastic bee shaped beads. I think what appealed to her was how flexible it was. Again, she could bend it so it would fit further into her mouth to chew in the back, not just with the front. That came from Babies R Us. Also popular was her Sassy gel filled teething keys. Ultimately, I kept a bowl in my fridge with a variety of chilled teethers to offer. Her tastes would change from day to day.
