Get her O. or two toys (Mega Blocks or Little People Farm) and start a 529 college plan if you haven't already got O..

Get her a savings bond. She won't know the difference right now but they are great for when they are older and need money for school, car etc...

Here is my experience from my son's 1st bday. We have a large family and by the end of the day my husband and I were both asking each other why we even bothered buying him anything. He recieved so many presents that I had to put some away in the closet. I would pull a new toy out every few weeks and this went on for like 3 or 4 months. So if you have a large family then I would only buy on special gift. Something that will last him a long time. We bought him a ball tent and he still likes to play in it and he will be 3 in August.

You could always spend the money on a membership to the zoo or some place like that so you are able to spend time as a family. My sister buys my son a memebership to the Zoo every year for Christmas. It is a great gift that never gets old.

We usually give Barefoot Books- www.ReadandGrow.com. My son loves to be read to, and gets more "wear" out of books than he does any toys or clothes! Books last a long time, and well-written, colorful books like Barefoot Books are harder to find, but well-loved and appreciated. Check them out. I highly recommend Listen, Listen, the "Bear" series ("Bear in a Squre", etc.), and their new one- Who's In the Garden? (perfect for spring). Be careful- these books are addictive! They are so beautifully illustrated and fun. I love them as much as my son does! :)

Both of my kids have the twilight turtle/ladybug. It's a night light that projects stars on the ceiling in a few different colors. It turns itself off after maybe 30 minutes so it doesn't stay on all night. My daughter just turned 5 and still uses it every night. Type in "twilight turtle" and you'll get a lot of links. I know there's a turtle and a ladybug but they may have new ones by now. It's a great gift and you can find it for under $30.

My son had his first birthday in the month of July so we bought one of those little blow-up pools, and then some floaties, and fun toys. It was perfect/

Doesn't matter! She'll be one!
You could give her a box and she'd be delighted.

Take some nice family pictures, have a family dinner and that's it. It's the easiest birthday of all.

Hello mommie. Children today learn faster than we did when we were growing up. they seem to come out already knowing things. and reconizing things. make sure that you invest in learning toys alway from this point. sometimes babies as they grow will get hooked on something and remember it even during school yrs. invest in your child learning now and make it fun. Happy b,day baby.

Not sure if you are going to have a party...but really the little one will have no memory of any present..save your money.
If they are having a party, that is your gift and they will get plenty there. Our kids still do not get presets from us! We give them a family party. This year they opted to go to the Dells istead of a friend party (which is cheaper). Because younger kids grow so fast you will be buying them things throughout the year that the will need so do not feel so bad!

Maybe one nice stuffed animal and make the rest of the items things that you need because she is only one and will not remember what she got, and at one they like the box not the gift anyway.

I took my oldest (18 months now) to the store and told her to pick something. She picked out a simple stuffed winnie the pooh bear and a spongebob toy! She loves them and carries them both with her everywhere. I say let her pick out the toy on her birthday! It was so much fun to follow her up and down the isle until she found one. We kept suggesting toys but in the end she got what she wanted! =D

Hi there! For every one year old bday party (and my own kiddos) - I always bring them the fisher price little people farm with the farm animals. I can find it at target for about $40ish. They say its for 2 and up but i find the 1 year olds LOVE to hear the animal sounds, play with the farm, and hold those animals in their hands. It's such an awesome present! Have a great time with your daughter. What a special time for you guys!

If you looking for a memorable gift, something you can keep for when she is older, you could make a video with all the pictures of her first year of life. You could make a book at Shutterfly with pictures of her first year too. It is hard as a parent not to get a gift for first birthdays even though they usually get enough from family and friends. What we did was we waited until after the birthday party to buy a present. Here are some of my favorite one year old gifts:

Chicco Music 'N Play Table
Wee WEDGiTS
Playskool Walk N Ride
Munchkin Mozart Magic Cube
Fisher-Price Infant To Toddler Swing
Mega Blocks
Fisher Price School Bus
Little Tikes Rocking Horse
Little Tikes Swing Along Castle(over a hundred dollars)
Animal Barn Theme Wonder Play Ball Tent House

Hope you find something great!

Happy soon to be birthday to your little girl!

Here are some items my daughter received for her first birthday. Pottery barn anywhere chair (must have item), little people farm, house, tree house and carriage, shopping cart with food, clothes, Elmo books, see n say, dolls, Cozy coupe car, Mega blocks, Elmo phone, Disney Dvd's, purse, savings bonds, crayons, paints, wagon.

For Christmas (just 3 months after her first birthday) my daughter received a baby doll stroller, high chair, pack n play bed, dolls, bottles etc. Including a bitty baby doll. She LOVES her baby dolls. Oh, and she also got a kitchen.

I also did a one year video on Onetruemedia.com. Very easy and inexpensive. And my mom did a really neat picture. The background was composed of about 100 pictures of my daughter and those pictures formed a large picture. Very cute but hard to describe.

Because it will be nice weather soon, I also have some other suggestions. My daughter also received a motorized jeep car (18 months and up) a sand and water table, chaulk, bubbles.

Hope these ideas help! Oh, I gave family a list of items she "wanted". That helped a lot.
