Hello Everyone! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I just wanted to know if anyone has any good suggestions for a fun family place to visit or to drive to that we could take my husband on Father's day. I would just like to get him away from the house for a little bit for some down time and relaxation. I don't know if there are any fun places in the mountains to visit or places to see around the Denver Area.
There are tons of great places to visit but off the top of my head there's Heritage Square, Estes Park, Red Rocks/Morrison. We were up in Evergreen yesterday and then went to the Jefferson County Open Space park just out of town. There's a little lake where you can rent paddle boats, tons of paths to walk around on and picnic areas. It was a lot of fun and not too far away so gas isn't huge issue! Have a great time whatever you end up doing!
There's tons of stuff! We like the Olympic Training Center, Red Rocks, the Airforce Academy, and the the Royal Gorge. Closer you could go to any of the museums around, the zoo is great, we've even done the Botanical Gardens recently. Those are the things that come to mind right off. Have fun!
Rocky Mountain National Park is awesome if you like outdoor activities, it is about a 2 hour drive from Denver. Castelwood Canyon outside of Parker( just go way south on Parker road) is neat too, there is an easy hike the 5 year old could do and the two year old could ride in a jogger stroller or back pack. Have fun!
Theres Estes Park, Glennwood Springsif you like swimming. Caves of winds in the springs the seven falls. If you enjoy the zoo or butterfly pavillion. Theres even the rennesaince festival starting that weekend in Larkspur. I am sure whatever you do it will be great.
Oh, wow, the list of fun things to do on a daytrip in Colorado is long and fun!
Colorado Springs and Canon City have a myriad of ideas. You can look most of them up online at http://www.pikes-peak.com/. I haven't done Seven Falls or the Royal Gorge yet but would recommend them anyway. There's Cave of the Winds, driving up Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods (one of my favs), and more. Some are free. Some have a cost. Check the website for links to all of them.
Also, if you want to go west, the drive (US-285) to Fairplay and Buena Vista is quite scenic. There is an old museum from the prarie days in Fairplay. I think it's called Southpark. It's pretty cool because you can walk through different types of shops and see all the old tools of the trade. One building has old carriages of different sorts and there is a train car that you can climb into.
Or, you can go out I-70 to Mt. Evans, Glenwood Springs, Idaho Springs, Historic Georgetown, etc.
If you like to hike, try localhikes.com for some good locations with easy trails where you can take the kids.
Pine Valley Open Space in Jefferson County has a big lake & a river where you can go fishing and/or feed the ducks or take a hike.
If you want to go north, you can try a drive through Estes Park or a walk through the old part of Ft. Collins or Longmont.
