Hi Moms. I was just wondering what you would suggest or have experienced between Farmers and AllState insurance. I am THINKING about switching over to All State...but would like some help deciding.

What can I do next?

I used to work for an attorney who handled personal injury cases (car accidents). Allstate was one of the worst for taking care of their "own" insureds for coverage in the policy you paid for. It was very sad to see that time and time again the Allstate customers had no help. Farmers was much better.

I don't know anything about Farmers. I can tell you from what I have heard is that Allstate is great for auto insurance but not that great for homeowners insurance. My neighbor had hail damage on his roof and they told him it was normal wear and tear so they wouldn't cover it.

I believe both companies are good. What is important is to find an agent you trust and will give you proper coverage without having too covered.

We have Farmers. We've dealt with the same agent almost 20 yrs. We have house, car, jewelry rider on home insurance and umbrella through him. We sit down about once a year and go over it.

We have had no claims other than a hail damaged roof. We keep our deductibles high $1000 on car and house. That said, being in TX we still pay appx $2500/yr on house (including jewelry rider of $1000), $4000/yr on cars (we have a 16 yr old girl and 3 high end cars), and $600 on umbrella for business and personal coverage.

This includes discounts for defensive driving, home security system, car security systems, and have ALL policies with the same agent.

Good luck...

I worked for Allstate for about 6mos after college (I am a nurse now) and worked in claims for auto accidents. I always remember having nothing but problems when dealing with Farmers employees. I know it could be different from the perspective of a client rather than coming from another company, but I never would go to them b/c of that.
If you could, I would go with USAA. If you or your parents were in the military you can join and they have great rates and their customer service is BEYOND GREAT. My father was a State Farm agent for 30 years but now he has everything in USAA..... that says something. I have my banking, home ins, auto ins, and life ins through USAA and just have no problems with them whatsoever. Such great people on the phone and great rates!

Good luck!

Allstate over Farmers for sure. I'm an independent agent in AZ. You really should find an independent agent in your area. We have contacts with many large insurance companies and can find you the best coverage for the best price. Just google "independent insurance agent in San Lorenzo CA" and call one. Good luck!

I had allstate before and they were good. I currently have esurance and I like them. You can do everything over the computer. If you need to talk to someone they are there 24/7. When I went to get a new car they were available and able to on a saturday fax proof of insurance over to car dealership. The salesman was impressed with their fast service.

We have had Allstate for several years and have had no problems, we have been really happy. We use them for auto and renters. A couple of years ago the house we were staying in had a flood and we ended up staying at the Residence Inn for four months. Allstate was great about covering the expenses and they were responsive. We have been happy.

Go with a reliable A ranking Ins company that is reliable and the best price. Both companies have A ratings. You will find pros and cons with every company you look-up. Educate yourself and use your best judgement.

Auto or Home? We "had" farmers for years, then switched. We also use to have state farm. I wouldn't suggest either of those. If your final decision is between the two then definitely go for All State. Farmers and State Farm have way too many increases and the customer service is not great. We now have Geico and Travelers for the past 3 years. Hey, no one says you can't switch if they are not what you expected; if its a good savings give it a go.

We had Allstate over 20 years ago and had nothing but trouble when attempting to collect on claims (house and car). I suggest you find an agent you trust who represents multiple companies. Ours is here in San Jose and has seen that we're well taken care of. We've now had Mercury for house & cars for at least 15 years. Their rates are excellent and claims have always been handled expeditiously.
