Hi, my daughter is 4 months old and her doctor said she's ready for the exersaucer. The only problem is I am torn between the jumperoo and an exersaucer. My daughter seems to get bored easily and I'm afraid jumping won't be enough to entertain her. However,I love the idea of her getting some exercise. We could get both, but they take up so much floor space. Any recommendations? Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

Hi everyone!! Thanks so much for all the advice, we ended up getting both the Einstein Discover and Play Center and the Rainforest Jumperoo. She hasn't used the jumperoo yet but likes her exersaucer so far. Thanks again!

My son is 8 months old and we have the Rainforest Jumperoo and he loves it. The toys are great and the seat spins so he can move around and jump. If you get a jumperoo with toys I think they are better than the Exersaucer.

I always found that my daughter enjoyed the exersaucer more than the jumperoo. She had more to entertain her in the exersaucer.

I love the Jumperoo Rainforest! It has toys around the seat to play with and you can jump! It's like a combo of the two!!

I would tell you that I have both. My oldest son (almost 2) LOVED them both!! My youngest, almost 9 months really didn't get to use the Jumperoo because his older brother thought he should try sling-shooting his brother. If you can afford, try both. If she gets bored of one, next time she can use the other.

Exersaucer was the best thing I found when my 10 year old was an infant. In addition they jump and spin, the jumperoo only jumps I think. good luck.

My son (now 2 1/2) loved, loved, loved his jump-a-roo. He didn't care for the exercaucer. However, very good friends of ours tried both with their daughter (1 week older then our son) - and she was completely opposite. Can you try both out at a friend's house or maybe daycare? Good luck. Some of my most fondest memories are watching my son jump and jump and jump. He would just belly-laugh like there was no tomorrow.

I would totally reccomend the Jumperoo. My son LOVED it. I had it in my kitchen. He used to love and watch me cook and jump around. My son is over one know, it is in storage. If you are interested in buying it, let me know. If want something new. I would really recommend the Jumperoo. Also, Jumperoo are stationary, they don't clip to the door.

My daughter has been in her jumperoo since about 4 months and it's the best thing I've ever bought. She is 7 mos now. She too gets bored really easily so we attached a bunch of other toys to it for her to play with. When she was about 6 months she started using an exersaucer at daycare with a seat that spun around. I watch her in there and she tries to jump. It's quite funny. The jumperoo has gotten her legs really strong. She loves to stand even though she can't hold herself in place yet. I can't imagine life without the jumperoo and I'm sure that my daycare provider couldn't do it without the excersaucer. I will be getting an exersaucer from a friend soon and I don't care how much room they take up. It keeps my bored little one just a little more entertained so I can have some sanity and get somethings done. Have you tried a walker yet? My daugher loves that too. She can only go backwards but she loves all the toys on it. Around 6 mos she finally learned how to push Pooh down so it would play music. I would have to say get used to walking around all of the toys..lol.

Why don't you get an exersaucer and a doorway jumper. With my first 2 kids I used an exersaucer and a doorway jumper, and they loved it, and I loved having the 2 options. But with my 3rd we didn't have a door jam that the doorway jumper would fit in so we opted for the jumperoo, which my son loved and still will go in it occasionally, he will be 1 tomorrow. He loves to crawl now and pull himself up on things, but if I need somewhere to put him to keep him safe for a few minutes while I get something done, the jumperoo is fantastic. I bought the Fisher Price Rain Forest Jumperoo. Good luck. Here is a link to get you to this product.

I would go with the exersaucer. Both my kids loved it. It does bounce a little. It has different heights you can adjust it to (at least mine did). Mine was an Evenflo. The doorway jumpers are great but I think 4 months is too young. I would wait until she can sit up on her own before putting her in that. My kids also loved those.

I see you have lots of responses but I thought I would add mine! I have the rainforest jumparoo! And that is the best investment I have made so far! I had a saucer but my kids didnt like it that much! But for the jumparoo he could spend hours in it! I actually have to take him out so I can spend time with him!

Hi L.,

My suggestion for you is to use the Exersaucer now and the jumperoo later on when she is a bit older. Both of my boys loved the Exersaucer, there are different ones out there, with many activities attached. I think they are great because they can rock from side to side, it has 3 legs under the Saucer so you can keep it stationary, and some had 3 height adjustments so as your daughter grow it grows with her. When my sons were babies I would put them in it and place a small pillow behind their backs for more support so they could reach the activities. When they were older I used the Jumperroo. I know the Saucer takes up alot of room, but it is well worth having, whereelse can they play, spin ( chair spins so they can get to all activities or you can lock it so they stay in one spot) rock, jump and learn all in one. I hope this advice makes your decision easier, Please let me know. A. M.

Honestly, I don't recommend either. They both put undue stress on the hips. Your baby needs practice balancing and these support her weight without requiring balance. The best exercise she can have is lying on her stomach learning to crawl.

Hi L.~

My daughter is 5mos old and has both the excersaucer & Jumperoo. I like having the options so she won't get bored. She rocks back & forth in the excersaucer, spins her seat, and loves all of the colors, sounds and textures of the toys on it (we have the Baby Einstein one). The Jumperoo is fun excercise!

They may take up a little bit more floor space for both but just keep in mind that she'll only be in them for a short time, then you can have your floor back!

Hi, my daughter loved her exersaucer. I also had something like a jumperoo but it clipped just above the door jam. It reminded me of a swing attached to a bungie cord. This allowed me to take it down and store it under the bed when she wasn't using it. Good luck!

My daughter LOVED the exersaucer at 4 months it kept her entertained for long bouts. Then we purchased a jumper at around six months. She still loved the exersaucer but she grew out of it rather quickly because she is so tall.

Personally, I really liked the exersaucer but that being said we never had a jumperoo. I have since heard exersaucers called terrible things (i.e. rings of neglect) but honestly, I think if used in moderation they do a lot to build motor skills and teach cause and effect, etc. One note on the jumperoo, I have a niece who used hers all the time and apparently she now will only run on her toes and the doctors think that the jumperoo was the cause of it. If she doesn't stop doing that on her own she might have to have surgery. Now obviously not all children wind up running on their toes after the jumperoo but it just made me a little bit wary. I know what you mean about the space issue as well -- things are so tight with the baby junk! If you really want a jumperoo could you get a doorway jumper to save space? I don't know much about them but I know they exist.

Hello. I would reccomend the exersaucer. The jumping thing that goes in the door way is not good. My sister used it for her daughter and she hurt her hip relly bad and had to wear a brace at 7 months old.

I can't speak for the jumperoo, because we don't have one, but I can tell you my son LOVES his exersaucer. We have the Graco Baby Einstein one, and since we started putting him in it, he's been fascinated by every toy on it. While in it, he is developing leg muscles, because he stands and rotates around in a circle to go from one toy to the next. It's also good for motor skills, because he's manipulating the various toys, etc.

Hi L..

I know that everybody seems to have their opinion about everything we do for our children, but the advice that was given to me was to not use an exesaucer because it can be bad for hip development. I don't know if your doctor mentioned that to you. I haven't seen actual research, but had read an article on it a while back that they aren't the best to use.

I didn't use either the exersaucer or jumperoo because my daughter loved her floor mat that had dangling toys. Even when she learned to sit up/propped by the boppy she still enjoyed the floor mat.

Hope this helps you a little. Good luck with your decision and have a nice Thanksgiving.

My daughter has an exersaucer that she can also jump in like the jumparoo. She loves it! It also has the toys on it. She can spin and jump and play. Maybe you can look for one like ours. I bought it second hand, so I am not sure what brand it is.

Hi i had both the exersaucer and the jumper and my son loved them , it does comes in handy when you need to do things around the house, i had him use it for 1/2 hour and no longer then i put him on the floor mat for belly time. I do recommend both even if it does take up space they need different activities. hope this helps.

In my opinion, I would get a Jumparoo. They have so many toys on them now it is basically the same thing as an excersaucer. I also used to clip extra toys on mine. You could always buy one and if she gets bored, sell it- Jumparoos are so popular you could probably sell it right away on craigslist or something. Or better yet maybe look in the consignment shops for a used one?

I enjoyed the exersaucer with my three children and they got to turn and bounce in it as they explored all the toys on the surface. My advice would be to go with that. They still get the leg strengthening and have more to look at to keep them entertained.

We had the same questions when trying to figure out what to get our son. We decided on the "Baby Einstein jumper/exersizer". This worked great. AJ loved being in it, and he could jump up and down a bit, and then play with the toys that were attached to it. You could also try one of those true jumpers that attach/hang from a door jam. My nephew has one of those and loves it. We don't have any door jams on our doors, so we couldn't go that route. Hope this helps. Oh, and if you're worried about your little one not getting enough exersize, just make sure you get her to do a lot of "belly time". AJ hated doing this for a long while, but as he got older (he's eleven months today) he learned to love it.

My daughter preferred the exersaucer there were things to play with and believe me she jumped and played h*** o* it, cant tell you how many times she fell asleep in it. I had a jolly jumper that just hung from a door jam so it was great while I was in the kitchen but the rest of my house is open concept so really didnt have anywhere else to hang it, but it is cheaper and easy to store then buying the big jumperoo. And this way you can get both!

Enjoy every minute its my daughters 4th birthday today and I cant beleive how time flies it is so true what everyone says! Now we have to look into schools oh how I miss the exersaucer days!!!

Happy Holidays!

I was going to get a jumperoo instead of the saucer because they can actually jump in it as opposed to being in the excersauser just looking at the same toys all of the time, it just seemed better to get the jumperoo. So i went on line looking and i found the Baby Einstein jumper at toysrus.com . She loves that jumper so much it has 2 bars on each side that you can hang all your own toys on to switch it up and make it different all the time and you can connect toys onto the tray also so they dont get bored of the same toys, i connect frozen teethers rattles anything. Also it has a 5 or 6 height adjustment so as they grow you can move it up. Great product, i hope this was helpful. Also the seat swivels all the way around just like a saucer

i did not have a jumperoo, I only had an exersaucer. mine was a evenflo cirus themed one and my daughter loved it! We started off by just putting some of the toys on and then from week to week we added some and took some off, that way she wasn't overstimulated or bored...we used it until she was too big for it but it did last for awhile! She would play in it for a good 20 minutes or more, which was a blessinh! mine had the adjustable height too..My mom had a graco one that when the baby jumped on the floor it made sounds..

I would recommend an exersaucer. My daughter used to stay in hers for a while without getting bored. We also had a jumperoo and she liked it, but would get bored after about 5 minutes, plus I wouldn't keep her in there for too long since I've heard about kids having hip problems from being in there for a while. So I'd go with the exersaucer, you'd get more use out of that.
