I had two episiotomies with both of my kids and the doctor said the tissue was thining now and had me use a cream and I go back tomorrow. Just wondering if anybody else has gone through this and what it means and what you did for it.

What can I do next?

I know that most modern doctors are not doing episiotomies routinely anymore. I tore when my baby was born, but was stitched up and everything was fine. It sounded terrible and I was extremely nervous about hurting myself when I sat down or whatever, but actually felt much better quite quickly and have no problems now.

I would get a second opinion, because that doesn't hurt a thing! Good luck to you! K.

I know I had one with my first child. NOW 13. Since then I have had a fistula. (a hole) keep up on this. My doctor then told me he didnt see anything. A few years later, I was pregnant, different doctor. He said he say it, and could fix it after the baby was born. Well, not so much. now it is a permenant hole and they have to do reconstructive surgery. I dont have insurance so, i am just dealing with it. This may not help but I wanted you to stay on your doctor. dont let this happen to you.

I had an episiotomy with my first baby, and it was sore for a very long time. The doctor I had with my other two kids says he doesn't do episiotomies, that most doctors are moving away from doing them, and that usually, it's better off just letting it tear. I did have two tears with my second child, both requiring stitches, and it was a way easier recovery than the episiotomy. With my third child I didn't tear at all, and he was huge. If the doctor had done an episiotomy as a matter of course, or even based on the size of the baby, it would have been for nothing. So if you have another child, just tell your doctor that you don't want one. I don't know what to do about the thinning tissue, but If I were you I would try a different OBGYN before you're ruined down there.

I think many doctors now don't do episiotomies like they did when I had my kids. I had 8 episiotomis and they did them routinely almost. I had one fissure but it was fixed and not sure if it was from that procedure or not. Anyhow, no problems so far and my 'baby' is now 24 yrs. old. I would get another opinion, or two. I can't see why the skin would thin there because of it. I'm no doctor though.
