Double Stroller Advice - The Colony,TX

I am pregnant with my 2nd child due in July. I have a 2.5 year old boy and he is an active little guy!
I am looking into all double strollers--particularly the tandem (front/rear seat) type and not side by side.
I like the look of the sit/stand elite and the graco quattro tour duo. Any advice on either of these or recommendations of other double strollers? Thanks so much!

Hi M.,

Congratulations! I have the Graco quattro, and even though it's heavier, I love it! It is harder to maneuver as far as getting through clothes racks sometimes, but other than that, I like it. Unfortunately, my oldest decided he no longer wanted to sit in the stroller once my daughter was born, so we haven't used it a whole lot. Everyone really compliments on the appearance, and I really like that aspect as well. Good luck with whatever you choose. I just read through the posts and had to comment since I didn't see anything positive about it!

joovy caboose ultralight. love it and worth the extra dollars to get the light version. very easy to maneuver. amazon had the best pricing when i got mine. suggest reading reviews online too. key reason i even started looking at the joovy. so many love it too.

i actually bought 2 double strollers...one to run with and one for every day stuff. I NEVER opened the one out of the box. It was WAY easier to "wear" the baby in the sling and have 2 hands to chase my 18month old around. He was actually really good about stuff, but when we went to the mall (which was not a lot anyway) he would ride in his single stroller and i would sling the little one. Now my oldest is 2.5 and youngest about 14m onths, i STILL only use one single stroller most of the time; unless we are exercising or outside. We have a Bob Revolution. it was by far the best purchase made. Expensive, but REI will put it on sale for 20% off here soon and they have a LIFETIME warranty on it...so worth it for us.

I live in the UK where my bulky double stroller wasn't working at all so I bought a joovy caboose light. Its a lot like the sit and stand. I absolutely love it and it doesn't take up my entire trunk. My kids are 3 and 18mo. I'm not sure how well it will work with a newborn. I know it came with an attachment to attach a newborn carseat to. I believe they work with specific car seats. Good luck.

That Graco one is SUPER heavy. I bought the Combi front and back one and I didn't really like it either. It was lighter to lift than the Graco, but the problem with those front/rear ones is that when you put the bigger child in front (because let's face it, what 2 year old wants to sit in the back??) the stroller becomes SOOO hard to manuever. I actually gave mine away because I just wasnt' ever using it.
So, my advice would be, do the Sit n Stand or get a side by side. HTH!!

I watch a 17 month old and I have a 19 month old. I got a Graco tandem and used it maybe twice (big, bulky and drove me insane). Then I started using my BabyHawk carrier to wear my son on my back (you can wear a newborn on your front) and pushed the 17 month old in an umbrella stroller - I could FLY in and out of any place that way. It worked fantastic! You could wear the newborn and push your son.

Babyhawk carries up to 40 lbs, so you could also wear your son on your back and push the newborn - either way.

I Love Phil and Teds sport. It easily copes with being a running stroller and one for around town. I have a mini van and i dont even have to fold it up to put it in. The baby can lie flat and the older child can be in a seat in top as long as he's less than i think its 27lbs or the baby lies under the older child.

I looked at the sit and stand options but with a very active 2yr old boy i was scared that he might run off etc just when i didn't need it and he had nowhere to sit or sleep when he got tired. I definitely didn't want the side by side... they r terrible to shop with and my little boy when tired would annoy his baby sis.

There r a few stores that carry the P and T one down in Hurst. But i wouldn't buy it from the stores its way to expensive I got mine online for $400 less than the stores were charging.

Good luck

I bought the Graco Quattro Tour Duo - and I wouldn't do it again. VERY heavy and bulky and hard to maneuver. I'd check out the sit and stand or the Graco DuoGlide - much lighter. If I had to do it over, I'd do the sit and stand OR look into a side by side umbrella type stoller. Determine when and where you'll most use it - inside malls/stores or outside. Good luck and enjoy #2!

If your little guy already is compliant enough to ride in a stroller, then I'd say get the sit-n-stand. But, if he's anything like my 2 and a half year old, I'd say that getting a double stroller is just a waste of time. I have 5 kids and I've owned 3 double strollers. I keep thinking, "Oh THIS TIME I'll really use it!" And I have never used it well enough to justify what I spent on it. Even this last one, a sit-n-stand, I like the best of all I've ever had, and I got it used from Craigslist, but still, it's huge and it takes up my entire back end of my minivan. It's so giant to push around. And, 90% of the time my toddler will NOT stay in it, even if I buckle her in. At first it was a novelty and she liked riding in it. But once we had it a while, the newness wore off and she was bored with it.

My suggestion would be to just put the baby in your existing stroller and have your son hoof it. OR i saw at Burlington Baby Depot a thing you can clip onto the back of a regular stroller that is a platform with wheels. It basically turns a regular stroller into a second standing area for the toddler. It's better than nothing and it wouldn't be as big as a full double stroller.

Google "Buggy Board Maxi" or "KiddyBoard Maxi". Also, I found a cool tricycle clip-on that attaches to a standard stroller. It is called the Swiss Strolli 1. Google that. Just a few ideas.

Oh, ONE LAST THING: If you get the sit-n-stand (I have the one by Baby Trend) they will last a long time. At Six Flags this past week, my daughter got tired of walking and she rode in the back seat facing backwards. She's 10 years old and weigs about 80 pounds. I know, probably not the recommended age/weight, but it didn't harm the frame and I didn't really have any problem pushing her (except for the weight - but it was certainly maneuverable). So, it will last long-term if you decide to keep it for a while.

Hi! We are due with our 2nd baby in June! :) Congrats on your new addition!

Our little girl is 3, and we were dealing with the same thing - I wanted something that she **could** ride in (if we're somewhere like the zoo), but that wasn't a waste of space if she wasn't in it. I could just see either getting a huge double stroller and her never riding in it... or having just the infant travel system for the new baby, and Emma getting tired and needing to be held or want to ride, and we have nowhere for her to sit...

SO... we got the Joovy Caboose. (http://www.amazon.com/Joovy-Caboose-Tandem-Stroller-Orang...)

The space in the front can accomodate a child who wants to sit, or an infant carrier (with the attachment). Then, in the back, Emma can either stand on the little ledge (with a strap that goes behind her back to hold her in), or sit on the seat that would face mommy or daddy pushing the stroller. I am SO excited about using it. She's excited because I told her by sitting there, she can help us with the baby. :)

Also, yesterday, we went to the Dallas Arboretum with some friends who have a 2 month old baby girl, and they left their stroller at home, so we got to try out our new one! It was PERFECT! The baby carrier/seat fit great in the front, and Emma was able to ride when she wanted, and then get out and walk... and our "double" stroller was not near as bulky as our other friends who had their Graco travel system with them (which is what we had with Emma - either the Quattro Tour or the Metro-Lite). It was easy to operate, too... I love it! :)

Have fun shopping and good luck with the arrival of your new little one! :)

We went to Disney last summer, our kids were 3 and 1 at the time. We got a side by side stroller because I knew the 3 year old would walk sometimes. It was definately bulky and we were tired of it after a week, but it was definately better than carrying 1 kid or pushing an empty stroller (we considered taking 2 umbrella strollers instead). The front back ones are so long it's hard to turn them, and we wanted both of the kids to be able to see what was going on in front of them. The seats also reclined separately which was nice.

I may have a different answer than other people for you...I have a boy and a girl who are 18 months apart. I put them in a side by side valco stroller (don't know if they sell it anymore)--really cute, though because you can get blue on one side and pink on the other, etc...but I liked having them side by side because as they get older they talk together. It is surprising, but the side by sides do fit through most doors. Anyway, they did like being next to each other (maybe because they were so close in age).
