Hi. I have a soon to be 4 month old & a 2.5 yr old (who is small for his age 24 lbs). We currently own the city mini single stroller & love it. Now we're looking for a double that is not expensive as we'll probably only use it some weekends, occasionally. I wouldnt mind a jogging but I'm not really a jogger however would like to start. We live in "subarbia" but go into the city occasionally so as far as stroller tires think we should be fine with not very expensive. I'm torn between side by side seating vs tandem. My 2.5 yr old will only nap in a stroller or during car rides so I need something that will lay somewhat flat for him. Suggestions?

What can I do next?

When you go into the city, are you walking around in the downtown area? If so, I'd definitely go with a tandem stroller, or you risk getting angry fellow pedestrians downtown.

We have 3 double strollers: a side/side Combi umbrella, which is very lightweight and great (I think it was around $200); a double jogger made by Baby Trend, which was about $250 (it holds my Graco SnugRide infant carrier), and is much heavier; and a Graco DuoGlide tandem. Some women collect shoes--I collect baby gear ;-)

I have had the Graco the longest--it was about $150 when I bought it 4 years ago, and is the one I bring when I am going to the Mall, or to a museum. The others are simply too big. I use the others when we are at the zoo or park.

Are you sure you need a double stroller? We got the glider board for our City Select for my daughter who was 3 at the time. It was perfect for the times where she didn't want to walk. She is 4 now and still uses it quite often. We got much more use out of the glider board then we would of a stroller. If you are set on getting a stroller, I would look at the McClarens. I don't think you are going to find an inexpensive double stroller that reclines. I know in our area the Just Between Friends Consignment sale is coming soon as well as other baby consignment sales, maybe you can find something there.

You can't beat the city mini double stroller for getting through doors, loading into the car, and opening & closing with ease! Our boys were able to ride in it from almost birth to almost four. One could recline, while the other sat up. Check it out at Buy Buy Baby or Babies R Us.

I loved my Joovy double tandem stroller:
http://www.joovy.com/c-18-double.aspx

I actually ended making a sling to go in the back so my older kid can sleep back there on rare occasions. Otherwise the older kids always fight to either sit or stand in the back.

I've owned alot of double strollers in my day including the Combi and DouGlider. I absolutely hated the Dou Glider for it's cumbersome size (one child in front of other). The Combi was okay but by age 2.5 your child may be soon outgrown it. The Joovy is double but is small enough that if you have only one child it doesn't look like you are missing a child (ie it looks like a regular sized stroller) and it balances well with just one child in it.

The City Mini double is great. If you're happy with it as a single, I'd look into getting the double.

We got the Jovy Sit and stand. I wish I had gone with the baby trend double. Or another one that had two seats that folded down to a nap position. I think the one that folds down the best was the chico.

If they are side by side (the seats) it will not fit in some stores.

You can try the second hand stores like once upon a child or craigs list..

Good luck
