Yes, I'd say definitely get a double stroller. My kids were almost 3 years apart and it was a lifesaver. If the older one didn't feel like riding in it, I at least still had a place for all the gear we seemed to need every time we went out. If you're worried about the cost, try ksl claasifieds, craigslist, and even Play It Again Sports (I saw a few nice double strollers in front of the Cottonwood Heights store recently).

My kids were 3 years apart so I did not think I would need a double stroller because my 3 year old could just walk. I ended up wishing I had a double stroller a couple of time though! I even squeezed both kids in my single stroller a few times. If you plan on going on lots of walks, a double stroller is probably worth the expence. See if you can borrow one from a friend who doesn't need it anymore (or for a few years) or if you can buy one second hand.

S. I would say get a double stroller. I have a 2 1/2 yr old and 9 month and did they whole stroller and snuggly for the first bit until I got my double stroller and I love my double stroller. I have one that is a phil and teds. They are a bit expensive but great for a double stroller cause it is still smaller than my regular stroller. Check them out on ebay.
Good luck

When I had my second baby they were a little over 3 years apart and I wish I had bought a double stroller then. My hubby said we didn't need one, but after going to the store with both of them, I would definitely disagree. Now we are having a 3rd and the youngest 2 will be about 2 years apart and we bought a double stroller. I think it is worth the money for a little more sanity. we bought a graco duo glider. Haven't used it yet, but it had a lot of good reviews.

Yes when you have two kids, a double stroller is a life saver. Sometimes the toddler needs to be strapped in when you are shopping. It's good to get one with a basket. I actually have two double strollers and a single stroller. One light one which is a side by side McClaren Techno Twin. That I used to take my toddlers with me to the docs when I was pregnant with my third daughter. It only weighs like 25 lbs. It's good for places that doesn't have a lot of space to maneuver. I also have a tandem Graco duo stroller for walking around the neighborhood when the weather is nice. It does better on curbs. It's heavier about 45 lbs. I couldn't used it towards the end of my pregnancy bc it was too heavy. However, I love them both for making it convenient for me and sometimes my hubby when we need it.
Plus, when I get the chance to only bring one child somewhere I always have the single stroller in the car. I always think that a good stroller is something you shouldn't be cheap with. It is about making it easy on you while you are out and about with two kids. Someones the hubby isn't always around. Plus, you can check on Craigslist for a good stroller. Good luck on the new baby!!

I have bought a double stroller with my daughters and I love it. It is easier to handle may children. You can find them at second hand stores (Kids to kids other mothers in Boise, ID) for a little bit cheaper if money is a problem. I love my stroller!!! It is kind of hard to handle children excepially when you are holding a baby and a two year old. One thing you can also try is buying a baby carrier (it's like a backpack, but made for babies that why you can hold your son's hand while walking around. Congraduations.

Philandteds.com they have a great doule stroller that folds up nicely. It is not a side by side or front to back but sort of "stadium" seating. It is great because in the beginning the baby can lay completely flat and the toddler sits in front on top. Then when the baby can sit up the seat switches to the back so you can use it immediately and is well worth the money. A little pricey but sometimes ebay has deals.

Maybe get one that is a stroller and sit and stand combo rather than a traditional double? www.onestepahead.com has a few of those. Good luck!

We bought the Graco Quattro Tour Duo stroller and absolutely love it. Our boys were 3 and 1 at the time. It is rather pricey.. more than I like to spend on anything, but we walk a lot and take trips every year and it was absolutely worth the cost. I guess it would depend on how often you will use it. It's a very smooth ride & easy to push. Good luck! (I looked on Walmart.com, they are now about $210)

It is the Sit 'n Stand Elite Stroller. It allows your older child to be a bit more mobile and also allows you to keep your new infant secure. You can also change it up to fit various needs and ages.
I am expecting a baby in September and currently have an 8 months old. (Ugh, I know what you are thinking!)
I have been wondering what I was going to do and this seem like it will help me out. Since my first child will only be about 17 months I can't NOT have a double stroller, as my husband thinks.
What is great about this one is that I can set it up to have the traditional two seats, but as she gets older I can convert it to the toddler seat and still have our second one in a traditional seat. Seems like the best bet without having to keep buying strollers as they mature.

Or you can certainly do what my husband assumed I would do, buy one of those light folding strollers and push that as well as the big stroller around. I mean I have 4 arms right??? Men :)

I just bought a "Sit and Stand" stroller for my 2 youngest, 18 months and 2 weeks. It takes most carrier car seats and fold very compactly for a double stroller. I don't know how old your little boy is, but my 18 month old does fine on the bench seat. The Baby Trend - Sit N Stand Stroller with Parent Tray, Chatham goes for less than $100 shipped to the door from Wal-Mart.com. They do have a 2 seater, Baby Trend - Sit N Stand Plus Double Stroller, Silverado
Baby Trend - Sit N Stand Plus Double Stroller, Silverado that converts to a sit and stand for jut over $160 shipped to the door. I have tried the graco glider tandem double stroller and found it hard to steer. They have the larger child in the front, making it impossible to steer, too much weight on the front axle.

Hi S.,

My kids were three years apart and I did not have a double stroller-I wish I did!! Put an email out to your friends and to local preschools in search of a used double stroller. Maybe someone would be willing to trade if they only need one.

Your question brings back memories! Yes, from my own experience I'd say a double stroller would be super for you. The internet makes it so much easier to find the kind of double stroller that will work best for you. My last baby (an Army Captain now) was born when his older sister (now a fantastic schoolteacher) was sixteen months old. She had just started walking two weeks before his birth. That double stroller was a lifesaver - and well worth the money! When stroller time had passed, it was still in such good shape I was able to resell it to a mom of new twins.

Get a tandum stroller instead. The 2 year old will be able to use it for much longer and it comes in handy for cargo later.

Why don't you get a snuggly to hold the baby? It seems like he will not be open to staying in that stroller for you to get your money's worth unless you can find one on EBAY or at a resale shop for cheap. Plus when he starts having to move around you could just "toggle him to you. I did that with my son and it let him walk and explore while still being within reach of me. -V.

My girls have the same age difference. My oldest turned 2 on May 25th the year my younger daughter was born (August 19th). We actually still use our double stroller and they are now 4 and 2. It's not the necessity it once was but it's still nice to have. I love the one that we have. It's the Combi twin Savvy EX, which I think has since changed it's name, but it's the side by side model with cup holders. It's super light and maneuverable. It also fold really compactly which was nice when I drove a small car. Heck, it's nice now, and I drive a minivan. We got it for right around $200 online (Albee Baby's Ebay store). Another good option would be the Sit and Stand, I think. I've heard good things about that stroller, though a friend of mine said that her back "seat" is not really usable if she were to put an infant car seat in the front. The front seat has to recline in order to accommodate an infant carrier. This makes it pretty much impossible for the older child to sit on the back seat. They have to stand. I don't know if this is true for all models. She has the Joovy, and it's about 2 years old now. It's something to look into, though.
My suggestion is to "test drive" the double stroller that you like, and if possible, with two kids. This way you can get a good idea of how it steers/handles and how heavy it is. It's also a good idea to fold it up and lift it to see if it's something that would be easy to get in and out of your trunk. We borrowed and Eddie Bauer tandem when I was babysitting my cousins daughter and my oldest was still a baby. That dang thing weighed nearly 50lbs by itself and was an absolutely nightmare to do anything with! It barely fit in my trunk and actually ended up breaking my trunk release latch. That taught me what I didn't want in a double stroller.
Once you decide on a stroller, Google it so you can get the best price. You can find some great deals if you look. Good luck with you new baby, and CONGRATULATIONS!

Mine are 23 mos apart and I used my Graco DuoGlider all the time for the first year, it was extremely useful. I used it on and off as they got bigger, it depended on whether it was a short enough distance that my older one could walk the entire thing by herself. IE a trip to the mall was a double, a short walk around the block was the single. I sold the double when they were closer to age 4 and 2. I still use my double jogger at least 2-3 times a week since its great exercise and the kids both still fit nicely. Congrats!!

I have a Graco Quattro Tour double stroller ($250) that I no longer use. I will tell you that was the best investment. I have a 21 month old (30 lbs) son and a 5 year old daughter (35 lbs). I only quit using it because my son has outgrown it. When you consider that I was putting roughly over 60 pounds worth of kiddos in it, it became a difficult to manuever.

We chose the tandem stroller rather than the side-by-side. It made it easier to get around the airport, mall, zoo, etc..They are a little heavier but just as easy to collapse as a single style stroller.

If you are interested, I'd sell it to you in a heartbeat. Obviously at a reasonable price.

I didn't do the double stroller and I have a 2 1/2 yr old and 3 month old. I couldn't afford one and due to my toddlers high energy level I figured it wouldn't be worth it. I did buy a little "leash"/ backpack for my toddler. It's the animal kind. He really likes it and when he get tired I put him up on the handlebars of the stroller, but he mostly really likes walking.

I questioned getting one because I only have one little boy, but watch another one 4 days a week. Turns out I got one for a great price off of Craig's List so I don't feel like I spent a fortune for something I don't use all the time.
Also, because mine was light for his age I carried him in a Baby Bjorn and pushed the other little boy in a single stroller for a while. Actually this worked really well because he needed more attention and felt safer up close to me.

it's totally worth it. 2 yr olds like to run away. a stroller can be so helpful because the 2 yr old will be restrained when you are in public places and you are easily distracted by the baby's needs or shopping, or whatever. make sure you get a stroller with cup holders for snacks or little toys. when the baby is older, going for walks with your son helping you push the baby in an umbrella stroller can be nice too. but if you want to accomplish anything other than a leisurely stroll, get a double stroller. and if you get an evenflo, be sure to keep the warranty info. the company will replace what breaks, but be assured, something will eventually break. but if you've got little money to spend on a stroller, it can be worth it.

They are a little expensive. When my son was that age, he walked, rather, he ran and I had to put him on a saftey harness. When he got tired, I carried the baby and let him sit. Sometimes he sat on the top of the stroller where the shade is. It's never too early to teach your older one to hang onto the stroller while he walks beside you. It's good for them to walk. Good luck!!!

Definitely go with a double stroller. I liked my side by side. Your older kid will tucker out on outings and it is nice to give him a place to ride. Plus, you can carry more stuff in a double stroller. My kids are much older and we still have our single stroller. I take it to the amusement parks to hold towels, coats, drinks, etc. You will get many years of use out of it. You can also check local Mom's club sales and consignment shops too for good used ones.

We have a Combi TwinSport that we love! It fits anywhere, including bathroom stalls. I would get one. Our five year old would still ride in it if I would let him. Our 2yo goes crazy when we take the single stroller and he doesn't get to ride. Even if we don't always have two kids in the stroller, the second seat always has something in it. It's really easy to push, even one handed, and it's a breeze even in tight areas because it's so narrow. We've had ours for two year now and would never go back to a front back, and usually take it with us even though one is little enough to carry and the other is old enough to walk. Rarely does it go anywhere without both kids being in it at some point. I'd definitely say you'd get your monies worth out of it.

My daughter and son are about the same age differance. When I was expecting last summer, my friend gave me her old double stoller. I am SO glad that I did not spend hundreds of dollars. Although it came in VERY handy for the fair, and a few shopping trips, I acutually only used it about 5 times. It was super bulky, hard to navigate through small areas, and with the carrier in it, the front seat could not recline, so my daughter couldnt nap in it. Also, with the carrier in it, we could not use the bottom basket to hold things. We also could not hear our daughter all the way up front. What I ended up doing was carrying my son in a front carrier or sling, and pushing my daughter in a regular single stroller. Now that my daughter is 2 1/2 and my son is 7 months, and able to sit in the stroller, and too big for the carrier, the stroller is kinda nice for walks. But it is still too big and bulky for the mall, and I dont like that I cant hear my daughter up front. I would prefer now to have a sit/stand type stroller. Now, if my husband is with me, we take our regular stroller for our son, and an umbrella stroller for our daughter. She is really great about staying close, so we dont buckle her in, and she loves the freedom of being able to get up and not being so confined. Thats why I think she would love the sit/stand stroller. Plus those are much more compact and the kids are closer to you. If you can pick up a double stroller for cheap, or free, it's great for the few times you can really use it. But I would save your money, and use a sling or carrier, then decide in a few months what really works for your family. You might be suprised with what you come up with.
