Donation of a Crib

I have an IKEA baby crib that was only used for about 3 mos for my grandchild. Does anyone know of somewhere I can donate it? I'm hearing that cribs are not allowed as donations, but I sure would hate to have to throw this crib away. Can anyone help?

What can I do next?

Find a battered woman's shelter in your area. They should be able to take it and you would know it's going to really help someone out. If all else fails you can put it on Craig's List or Ebay or even FreeCycle.

I would go to a place that helps pregnant teenagers. We have one near here that allows the teens to live there for up to a year after the baby is born and take parenting classes, go to school, and get jobs. I'm sure there is something near you that does that and would love to have a gently used crib. There might also be a crisis pregnancy center near you that would know of a mother who really needs it.

Find a shelter or a birthright place. They often have people who come to them needing a crib. A local church that has a clothing room or does the food bank could help too.

Try calling your local shelters, health department or churches, if no takers then you can always freecycle, but first and most importantly, check to make sure it hasn't been recalled. The recalls were not done lightly, children were dying, so it is a MAJOR safety issue...if it is newer and hasn't been recalled then you can donate or sell it with a free conscience.

You cannot donate cribs, for safety reasons, but you can do one of three things.
You can wait until Babies R Us offers their trade-in deal (trade-in a crib, high chair, playpen, carseat, etc. for a 25% off coupon for a new item on that same list) and either offer it to someone walking in the door or trade it in for a item like a booster seat for that your grandchild can still use.
You can try to sell it on Craigslist or offer it up free on there or on Freecycle.
You can put in out on the curb with a "free" sign.
Good luck!

Try the Salvation Army -- I was able to donate a crib about a year ago. Goodwill refused to take it, telling us they no longer take *anything* a child can sit in (including cribs, high chairs, etc.)

You can post it on craigs list or freecycle.
