Donating Ladies Clothing for Best Use in Plano

We are cleaning out our closets and I have many clothes that may or may not sell well in a garage sale. I'd prefer to donate the majority to a charity that will offer these clothes to women in need. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Thank you, in advance!

Try Allen Community Outreach (ACO)'s Resale Store. They sell donated items and use the proceeds to help the needy. It is a great organiztaion that I volunteer for. You can find them at www.acocares.org

Genisis Women's Shelter. These women have been brave enough to leave abusive relationships, many with kids, most left with nothing. They either need the clothes themselves, or the shelter sells the clothes and uses the money for food and toiletries/upkeep on the shelter. I have some things piled up to take and would be happy to come get what you have and take all of it down there, or I can tell you where to go. Thanks!! I take dinner to the shelter for the women once a month and it is dear and near to my heart.

In Mckinney there is a place called the Samaratin Inn that is the only homeless shelter in Collin County. I'm sure they could use the donation. Here is the link

I would like to recommend The Family Place. It is a thrift store for a battered women's shelter and I have donated all my things to them for several years. Their phone no. is ###-###-####. They allow the women to pick out the clothing they need at the thrift store for no charge and then the profits from the sales go to the women's shelter. They also will come out and pick up things like furniture. T. O'Connor ###-###-####

Crissa's Closet! A terrific cause. If I remember correctly, it's on Custer just south of Parker. It's in a little strip facing Custer. The big store on that corner is Kroger.

Sorry, I don't really know other than CCA where you might want to donate your clothes.

I'm curious to know what kind of turtle you have. And, if he/she's a good house pet?

Thanks!

I don't where you live in Plano, but in Frisco there is a thrift store on Main Street(near Double Dip) run by Frisco Family Services where the clothes go directly to needy families. I like to use them because I feel like my donation isn't being swallowed up by administrative costs or profit.

I would very much like to recommend to you and all others looking to donate women's clothing, shoes, purses, and accessories that you donate to Crissa's Closet. They are a nice second-hand shop where all preceeds go to Hope's Door, a local battered women's shelter. Your donation is tax-deductible, and it could not go to a better cause. They are located at Custer and Parker on the SW corner by Subway.

Children's Advocacy Center.

There was a clothes closet at the Presbyterian Church on Jupiter/15th Street several years ago. Do not know if it is still in operation. Give them a call. Or check with other area churches.

Dress 4 Success. It is through the United Way and they help women overcome barriers to employment and also give them an interview outfit to wear. Once they have the job, the ladies can sign up with a woman's group who meet monthly to improve social skill and other things needed in the workplace. During which time, they are able to rebuild thier wardrobe.

North Dallas Shared Ministries or Genesis Women's Shelter are both great donation sites. They help women and families who are just getting back on their feet. One of the organizations allows them to pick out an outfit for job interviews and another in casual attire. I have donated to both and think they are wonderful organizations dedicated to helping someone get back into the grind of real life, not just to clothe someone who is not willing to do for themselves.

A friend who owns Golden Beach Tan in Allen is gathering items to take this week to people devastated by Hurricane Ike in Galveston this week. People there lost everything and are in desperate need. She personally rented a truck to take all donations to a facility there. If you're interested, email me at ____@____.com. I'd be happy to pick them up, or you could drop them off at her store. Her name is Tiffany.
