Did You Keep Any of Your Son's Clothes for Your Daughter?

I had a son first and then a daughter. The first year was def a lot easier to reuse boy clothes on a girl, but as they have gotten older it has gotten harder. I used all his jeans on her the first year and even some sleepers I used - since she was sleeping in the house and we were not out and about. Also reused crib sheets even tho they were boy themed - and same with blankets. But, back to clothes, if I had something that looked boyish I just added a pink something to go with it and "girled it up".

My six yr old daughter struts her hand me down camo pants with a red Tshirt and spiderman boots! The next day she'll wear a princess dress. Keep all you can!

Been there. Yes, I kept the jeans and she looked adorable in them! I kept all onesies and sleep gowns and such. I also kept generic tops. Congrats and best wishes with your new little one when she arrives!

One word: Bedazzler.

My daughter is wearing my son's pants and socks today. I kept everything, and the only thing I have NOT put her in, is onsies that say the words "baby boy". Everything else is fair game, even all the sleepers that do say boy. She got some girly outfits and I have bought some girly pants, but that is about it. The main reason isn't because the other stuff is boys', but because things like the boy's brown or green, don't always match with some of the girl clothes. The khakis and jeans are the best, but she is definitely a different size than he was.

I too kept all the boys jeans and most of the plain shirts no matter what color they were...girls were blue too! I used the sleepers, I just didn't take her out in any that were too boyish. I also only bought black snow boots and black snow pants so my son could wear them and then I could pass them to my daughter. I also used all the boys socks (especially white). I also used all of the onsies...just go through your clothes, you will be surprised by how much you will be able to keep!

I have 2 boys, but I do know of people who took the boy pants and added cute iron-ons or patches to make them girly.

Yep. I have one of each. Son is 3 yrs older than the daughter.
She has worn red and royal blue winter coats, hats, gloves.
She still gets hand me down PJ's sometimes (the ones that are tartan patterns and not frogs and stuff, lol). She wears his outgrown karate gear.

And lots and lots of outgrown Tshirts from family vacations/souvenirs.... :)
If she likes his stuff, and it is still "wearable", let her. :)

And DVMMOM: I LOVE the Bedazzler idea! My daughter has asked me for one, lol!

My daughter is 23 months and she wears:

Boy shoes in the yard.
Boys jeans at home and in the yard.
Boy PJ's at night once a week or so (I did buy pink ones too).
A grey fleece vest with a digger on it on walks and in the yard.
Has blue and truck sheets for her crib (for nights if she has an accident or is sick and I need a backup).
This winter she will wear a boys jacket for outside play, boys boots, and grey/black snow pants my boys wore.

For newborn stuff, anything that is green or yellow obviously is gender neutral. My daughter wore many of the little pants the boys wore, some of the more neutral onsies, and many sleepers.

That said, I did only save a limited number of things. Buying girl stuff is SO FUN, especially after having had two boys :)

Jeans and solid colored shirts are someasy to make look girlie. Go to a craft store or Walmart and buy a few bags of iron-on patches (flowers, girl-themed type stuff) and some ribbon and liquid stitch. You can put some ribbon border on the jeans pockets, patches on the legs or back pockets, etc.

I say keep what you can. They can wear anything that you choose really. If you don't wan it to be overly boyish then make it play clothes or pajamas or things she wears when only the immediate family is around. It is possible that she will prefer the boyish style having two older brothers. It is much easier for a girl to wear boy hand me downs than for a boy to wear girl hand me downs. lol. If you are in no hurry to get rid of things then keep them and let her choose what she likes. As for a baby, I don't think it matters a whole lot. Most clothes can be worn by either unless it is ultra important to you that what she wears screams GIRL.

I see no problem recycling anything you see as appropriate. Personally, I'd re-use onsies, sleepers, jeans, fleece sets, basically anything for around the house, actually. For going out, I'm sure I'd dress her in her 'own' clothes that are girls clothes, but for home, if it fits and it's comfortable, who cares?

(although, as I think about it, i'm ok with putting a little girl in blue stuff, but i'd have a harder time putting a baby boy in little pink stuff... a weird double standard, I know, but it's the truth...)

I just cleaned out my son's tiny stuff (smaller than 12 months) and hung on to all the denim, any non-gender specific onesies, and all his green and yellow baby gowns.
I also kept socks and shoes.

I reused a ton of stuff! Many baby clothes are pretty neutral to begin with. I saved the jeans and khaki pants. Pair it with girly shirts and a bow and no one will notice. Many of my son's tennis shoes worked well for my daughter too when she was little. Once characters showed up..I didn't use them - super hero shoes for didn't seem right. Many of his socks, especially the baby sizes could be reused Little boy boxer briefs have been terrific for potty training my daughter! :)(Just for around the house, we don't wear those out and about). And she loves her brother's hand me down jammies. There were a few items I saved, but looked odd on her, so I donated those items. I was a little shocked at how many items my son has passed on to my daughter.

My mom used to babysit for a family that put her son in his older sisters clothing. I just don't agree with it. It was obvious, even though the outfits were in primary colors that it was a girls outfit.

So, personally, I wouldn't. I wouldn't mind things like pajamas or gender neutral baby outfits, socks or onesies. But anything more I just wouldn't. But all that being said if you want to and you don't care what others think....go right on ahead.

My son actually wore pink. My daughers wore boy clothes. THey were still in good condition.
