Hi moms,
I have decided(finally!) to start doing some workout. I want to know your opinion on whether i should join a dance academy since there is some excercise involved or should i join a fitness club.

What can I do next?

Hi Sugandi-
I am a former dancer, I danced all the way through my college years. I have tried both LifeTime and dance classes at a studio.

I didn't attend classes much at LifeTime because they were not very "fun". I didn't have anyone going with me so I knew I wouldn't keep up with classes like "Boot Camp". Slow classes like Pilates just didn't feel like a workout to me. I want to be up and dancing around. Also, I didn't feel really "welcome" at a big place like LifeTime.

The dance classes I've taken in recent years were more fun, but not enough of a workout for the money. Once a week classes at $15 each will not get me in shape. With a lot of class time spent on stretching, or perfecting turning techniques across the floor, I didn't really break a sweat. Too much money for too little results. I was disappointed because I really love to dance and thought a studio would be the answer.

I was hoping to try Jazzercize. They have a place in LITH, check their website for more locations. It seems to be the type of place that have good music and old fashioned "aerobics" that I grew up with. Jane Fonda anyone?

I am 20 years and 15 pounds past my dancing days. I am an at home mom who is too sedentary. Good luck and keep dancing!

Hi there, I think it is better that you go to a fitness club. They are most competent on this area I believe.

Best wishes!

Well is your passion dancing? If so then maybe you should go this route becasue you have a better chance of sticking with it. Dancing does burn lots of calories also! You can always do toning and sculpting at home with some free weights.

The most important thing is to do something you enjoy because if you dread it, you won't do it! If you love dancing, then go for it. Whatever gets you moving! It also depends on what your goal is and what your starting point is. If just want to get healthy, then i think anything that gets your heartrate up (including dancing!) is wonderful. If you really want to tone up and get in shape, dance might be a good start but you might also need to add some other forms of exercise. Also the kind of dancing you choose may play a part. Did you look into whether your fitness club offers dance classes? Whatever you decide, way to go on getting moving! :) Good luck!
