hello ladies,
i am hoping someone can help me. My daughter has been suffering with constipation issues for months. She doesnt drink any milk since i took the bottle away and i limit her cheese intake. She does eat yogurts, lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains daily and only drinks water. the doctor told me to limit strawberries and apples b/c they are binding also. So what else can i do?? i am giving her miralax almost everyday. if i miss a day, she binds up. is it safe to give a 2 yr old miralax everyday??? ive tried the suppositories too which work when she having real issues, but is there anything i can do to avoid this problem???

Does she drink water? I just started giving it to my son in place of juice since he had loose stools, and he took to it...I bought the little Poland Spring pints of water that have the "sports" bottle lid so he sips out of it...maybe that will help?

Hello J.,

gerber pears work well. mix it in her drink. by the way if she's drinking soy milk, maybe it has too much iron for her. the cheese and yogurt WILL constipate her. so ease off on those. also 1 tsp milk of magnesia every so often will probably help. also, are you giving her rice milk or oat milk? any other type of 'milk' substitute? you could mix in 1 tablespoon of gerber baby pear into that and also add it into anyting else a couple of times a day and that works wonders =) if you compare the baby prune and the baby pear they have about the same amount of fiber per serving and the pears don't give the painful gas the prunes can give...
good luck and I commend you for trying to get your daughter of miralax. my daughter had problems too and we had to use miralax when she was 4 months old. then I figured out it was the milk that constipates her and still does, she's 7 now. ~Carmen~

Try feeding her the stage 1 or 2 baby prunes (or prunes with apples) twice a day and see if that helps. I resort to these often to help my toddler. Plus I cut down on the applesauce and raisins.

Also, does she not like any juice? You could try giving her at least 4 to 6 ounces of juice a day to help (and for vitamins too).

keep on trying veggies.. mix spinach pieces.. like chopped spinach in campbells soup... mix a little prune juice in with her drinks... don't keep her on mirlax to long.. she will get used to it.. it's better to do it with veggies and stuff like that.. good luck.. try blueberries and grapes,, raisins are great too..

Hi J.,

Will she eat prunes, raisins, or grapes? Also cantaloupe can help you to go. I would think any type of laxative wouldn't be good to take daily. Maybe you can get her to drink some diluted prune juice. Also try some high fiber cereals. Fiber one bars are really tasty and they may help as well.

i wouldn't give her laxative on daily basis. my 5 year old has always been constipated. the things that help are cantalopue (sp?), watermellon, raisins, prune juice, beans. i also limit rice and banana. as for strawberries and apples, that's odd. i still give her both of those.
our ped had also recommended we give her a liquid laxative, don't remember what it was but once he said you need to adjust the dose pretty much every few days as sometimes it'd be too much sometimes to little i decided against it. she still doesn't go every day more like once in a couple of days but better than before when she'd go at the most 2 weeks at a time. which was very painful.
good luck
