Considering Switching to Cloth Diapers - Austin,TX

I used a diaper service for the first 2 months after my son was born. After that I purchased my own diapers and covers and have been washing them myself ever since. He's now 13 months old. I think if you have the money, the diaper service is the best way to go. It's super easy. The diapers always came back smelling fresh and it was no extra work. I wanted to save money and do it myself and that has been fairly easy. It is messier than in the beginning, but I guess I'm used to it. I do laundry about every 3 days at home. I use a disposable diaper for my son at night and also when we're on the go. GOod luck!

hi there, i use "debbie does diapers" out of san antonio. ###-###-####) they deliver here to my home in austin once a week. they give you a pail with deodorizer to put the used diapers in. i leave it in the garage. you don't have to rinse or wash out the diapers when they are dirty, they go straight in the pail. it's been very convenient for us and it's been very good for my daughter, michelle (4 1/2 months old). i do change her more often that disposable diaper users do. you have to keep a closer watch on the them because wet diapers will cause them more diaper rash etc. they come with velcro plastic covers that help from any leaking, accidents, etc. at night, i use one disposable diaper... we call it her "nighttime diaper" :).
this has been working fine. she already does not like pooping in her diaper, as soon as she starts, she fusses, and i'll take her to change and let her finish without boundaries. the advantage is that they are potty trained earlier (according to the diaper service, all that i've read and common sense) because they can feel they are wet. with disposable diapers, they work too well and they don't know they've wet sometimes.
my diapers service has a guarantee that they'll be potty trained by the time they're 2 years old because of using cloth diapers or they will continue to supply you with diapers for free until they are potty trained. i hope this helps.

I used a diaper service for both of my kids. They are now 15 and 17 years old. i loved it. I didn't have to do anything. Just put the dirty diaper in the pail. the delivery person came and got the old diapers and brought new, clean ones. It was great. my kids hardly had diaper rash. there are diaper covers that go on with velcro so there are no pins. A godsend when I was pregnant with my second. I got carpal tunnel syndrom and I was afraid of pinning my son. I say go for it, if you decide it isn't for you, you can always go back to disposables. My main reasons for cloth was that I didn't wear paper underwear, why should my baby? and the environment, too. I would recommend reading Mothering Magazine. You can find a copy at most public libraries or at Whole Foods Market.

If you are going to switch, do it now, before he starts moving crawling and trying to walk. I tried to switch at 11 months, and she was too aware at that point.
