Cleaning a Shower

Can anyone tell me the best way to clean my shower? There is quite a bit of soap scum, mildew and just plain dirt, despite the fact that I generally clean it once a week. I use products I have bought at Wal-Mart and Target, along with a scrub brush but it still seems really dirty and now I am starting to scrub away some of the grout because I'm scrubbing so hard. I would love to buy a great product but will make something if that will work best. Help!

This may be late, but one thing we do is keep a squeegee in the shower and use it each time we finish showering. It takes a couple of minutes, but keeps the shower free of soap scum for the most part and my cleaning routine is drastically reduced. It's hard to get kids to remember to do it, though!

Clorox makes a product called Green Works. IT WORKS GREAT! You spray it one leave it for 5-10 minutes, come back and wipe it off with a wet sponge. I used Scrubbing Bubbles for years and just decided to try Green Works because it is non toxic. I honestly didn't expect it to work as well but I think it works better. My Shower looks brand new and I don't have to worry about fumes. The only thing it doesn't do is disinfect or bleach out mildew.

I like Lime Away to clean my glass shower doors and the faucets, handles, etc. I guess you could use it on tile also. I don't have grout/tile in my shower any more but when I did, I just sprayed the grout with bleach once in a while.

I clean the shower, sink, tub and toilet everyday. Too much traffic to let it wait for an entire week.

Magic Eraser, the Clorox pen, and those scrubbing bubbles work nice too. I mostly use Soft Srub and some water.

We also use a squeegy to remove excess water from the shower walls and doors after we shower. This seems to help too.

Try the Lysol Toilet in the BLACK bottle. It is AMAZING. It was the only thing that would get the hard water off our toilet & it worked so well that I put it all over the shower, let it sit for about 15 min & then it just wipes off.

If the scum is hardened then get a straight blade and it will scrape right off. To prevent that from happening again avoid soaps! I use non-toxic products and a germicide that are great. You don't have to scrub hard.

I highly recommend the Scrubbing Bubbles with a battery operated sprayer. It's found at your local Walmart or Target. I cant stand to clean my shower and so it'd gotten quite a bit of build up. I was signed up for a Buzz campaign to give it a try and I love it. It made my chrome sparkle and it hadnt done that in years. You just spray, let it sit, and then wipe it down. It takes a couple application to a dirty tub it get it clean, but after that, you can do your weekly cleaning and it will look great!

If you are scrubbing off grout there is a problem. After you get your shower clean you should go to he hardware store and buy some sealant for your grout. Put it in an applicator bottle (similar to a bottle that we use for hair dye). Apply the sealant to all of your grout. Grout needs to be sealed every so often to keep it from getting mildewy and overly dirty. After you clean, then seal you should not have a problem with getting mildew, soap scum and dirt off in the future.

We have a glass shower. We NEVER get out of the shower without first using the squeegee and wiping down the entire shower. This is a pain in the rear but it does make a diffference.

I use the Scrubbing Bubbles Foam about once a week. It does a good job with any hard water/scum areas.

I like the magic eraser answers, never thought of that! We used the scrubbing bubbles sprayer thing and yes it does work, but it eats batteries fast and then ours just straight up died after only a few months. It did work, but it wasn't worth the money of the batteries and the refills. Generally I try to use more "green" cleaners, but honestly, I've found nothing as cheap and effective as plain old bleach water. If you spray it in your shower after the last person each day you will see results pretty quickly! If you keep using it you won't see that mildew build up it will just stay clean. I know bleach isn't the best but it is cheap and it works! I just put it in an old spray bottle.

I use products that you can't get at Walmart or Target but are more effective AND a lot safer. Tub & Tile is what I use and then No Work can be used daily if you would prefer. Contact me for additional information.
