Hi to all you craft lovers, I am in dire need of a homemade craft idea for the annual Christmas Bazaar at my kids elementary school. The moms there continue to make and sell the same ol' stuff every year and I'd like a fresh idea or two to present to the public. I have looked online and really haven't found the one thing that caught my eye. Any help would be sooooo appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!!

This may sound a little crazy until you make or see one. But I make decorative wall fans out of plastic forks! You use a hot glue gun on low heat and glue the fork handles one at a time and space them out to make the shape of a fan. Then you decorate them with ribbon by starting with the fork tines on the left. You glue the ribbon first tine put ribbon across next 2 tines then you put the ribbon over the next forks only over the 2 middle tines until you get to the last fork you go over last 3 tines on last fork wrap around back of fan and glue it on back. Then you decorate it with silk flowers small to med size on top of ribboned fork tines. And put a bigger flower over base of fan handle. You also use more ribbons and leaves to decorate the fans. It is a fairly low cost craft. I get my forks at party city they usually carry about 20 different colors. And they have a wide base at the bottom of the forks. Sometimes they will be in their ad on sale. I get my silk flowers at yard sales. Different size ribbons at craft stores on sale or off ebay. When I get the flowers I strip them of there flower heads and leaves and I save the stems. I use the stems by cutting them into 2 inch lengths with wire cutters. Then I make a loop hot glue the loop closed then glue the glued loop on back on the top of the fan to use to hang it on the wall. That way no materials get wasted. If the flowers come in a basket or vase I resale them in my next yard sale. You can decorate these with xmas-easter-shamrocks etc. for any time of the year. Also for it's a girl or boy fans. I put a 10.00 price on them. I use 8 forks to make a fan.

I make victorian baskets and people love them!!! You take a basket (any size, shape) Hot glue batting in the bottom and then line the basket with material (you can use just about any kind of material) and hot glue it in place, then get some nice lace trim (I use 3-4 in lace) and hot glue it around the outside rim of the basket where you have attached the material, then wrap the handle in ribbon (I use 1' lace ribbon), and then pick up some rosebuds (silks) in a color to compliment the material and attach them to the base of the handle and each side, and then attach thin ribbon bows in 2 colors to match the rosebuds and material.

I have made baby baskets, wedding baskets, wine & cheese baskets in this manner and have sold them for $50.00. People snatch them up right and left.

You could also make Christmas egg ornaments. Blow out several eggs and decorate them w/glitter, ribbon, cotton, or whatever you want. Our family has been doing this every year since 1981 and I now have soooo many eggs that it's the only thing I decorate my tree with. They were a lot of fun to make and I can still see in my mind when we made each and every one of them. I have since gotten my Sunday School class and their families making them every year now.

Hello and MERRY CHRISTMAS T.!

My mom makes Santa and snowman pillows and Santa bags. You could also make Christmas tablecloths, place mats, napkins and even a Christmas tree skirt.

To stand out a little, you might want to take a few things for Chanukah and Kwanzaa.

Good luck! This is my favorite time of year! :)

depending on how much you want to spend, you might do the no sew fleece blankets. Use the school colors. Or make ornaments or chocolate truffles. Depending on what you like to do and how much the other items sell for. You could sell the blankets for $15-$20, a box of truffles for $5 and the ornaments for $3-$5.

T.,
Have you heard of the "I Spy Bag/Pillow?" Here's a link on what they are and how to make them. If I saw these at a craft fair, I would buy one for each of my children!

My friend makes plastic butterflies out of soft drink bottles. Cut a 3 x 4 piece from the middle of the bottle (the smooth part) Cut out pics of different butterflies and take the plastic and smooth down over the pic. Since the plastic is still trying to be round, she clips the edges with clothes pins. Take the tubes of craft paint and outline the lines of the butterfly, then paint in between the lines. Next cut out the butterfly along the outside edges. Take care cutting the attenaes out, they are small. Then where you've outlined the body of the butterfly, bend the wings up over the top of the body. When you let go, the wings are curved just right to look like it is in flight. You can use the ticky/tac stuff along the body and stick the butterfly anywhere. Email if you want and I'll send pic. ____@____.com

Hey T....
I LOVE wreaths. My mom and I used to make wreaths w/ those round spikey pods from a sweetgum (?) tree <Google sweetgum pod pictures> (I don't know if you have any in your area or not). Anyway, you get a styrofoam ring (We preferred the flat ones so it would lay flat against the door, but you could use round). Gather the pods and hot glue onto the ring, spray with glitter paint, wrap w/ ribbon or add bells on tassles. <Unfortunately, I don't have any made to show you>
Another option (a bit cheaper). Is to take sandwich baggies (the kind that you fold over - not ziploc). Slice the "fold under flap" along the seam and slice the bottom of the baggy (so you make a 'tube'). Shape a wire coat hanger into a circle and tie the baggy around the hanger (basic overhand knot). Garnish w/ battery opperated "LOW HEAT" christmas lights, ribbons or fake evergreen sprigs or bulbs. We would tie 3-5 baggies then add the Christmas item, then repeat until the closehanger is completely filled.

We always give homemade Christmas presents in my family. My favorite one was "Fireflies in a Jar." My cousin took a mason jar and filled it with a string of lights (either the plug in or battery operated kind). She then filled it with potpourri and placed a doily on top and tied it with a holiday ribbon. When the lights are on, it warms the potpourri.

Happy crafting!

This may fall into the same ole category but I would suggest no-sew blankets. You can do smaller, lap blankets to cut down on the fabric you have to buy. They are perfect for kids to take in the car. Or to cover a baby.
