Hi Moms!
I have a one year old baby (not quite ready for the term toddler yet haha) and we have a ton of outgrown clothes that have barely been worn. I would love to donate them to a family in need or a childrens shelter of some sort but I am having a hard time finding one that is looking for used items as opposed to new. I would also like to go somewhere that I know it will be needed, not just the run of the mill thrift store or goodwill, does anyone have a place that might need some items? I am open to all suggestions :)
Thanks!!

Any of the local Womens Shelters. Many of these children only have what they were wearing when they left their homes.

Try the Battered Women's Foundation in N Richland Hills or the Gensis Women's Shelter in Dallas. They are both much more grateful for anything.

Call Mission Arlington. They will come out and pick up items for you. They do very good things for people in need. Your items will definitely go to good use.

Jonathan's Place is a place for children who are in an abusive home. They take the children to Jonathan's Place as a temporary safety house. The are always in need of clothes and other items. I used to volunteer there. It just breaks your heart to see what these children have been through. Your genorisity would be greatly appreciated. Follow the link to see where to donate.

I don't know about Irving, but in Dallas, I give those clothes to the White Rose Women's Center (a pregnancy resource center) or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. I've taken gently-used toys to the Family Gateway shelter, but I don't know if they like gently-used clothing as well.

Hope this helps.

There are two crisis pregnancy centers in Dallas that I know of, the White Rose and one called Birth Choice. Both accept donations of used clothing and other baby items to give to moms in need.

I'd just like to say that thrift stores do a great service to those families that have some money to purchase clothes just not expensive new ones.

If you're near Roanoke the Food Pantry there is thrilled to receive clothing donations. That's where we take all of ours.

Do you go to church? If so, the children's director should know if there's a family that can use them.

Hi,

I donate to a battered women's foundation. We just moved to Texas and had A LOT of clothing, furniture and household goods. It is not sold. It is given to women and children who literally walked out of their homes with the clothes on their backs. They came and picked it up from my house. If you are interested, I can give you the contact information.

I use freecycle. I love freecycle. Someone won't take it unless they need/want it.

I would try your church if you attend. If not a battered womens shelter would be a good place to try (possibly). You may even call a local school and ask one of the counselors. Our church sponsors a school in McKinney and I know there are kids there in need so I am sure that some of the school in your area have some kiddos in need too (with younger siblings)

Good luck

Hi A.!

In Denton, we have Vision Ministries connected with a local church. They distribute clothing, food, furniture, etc. to those in need within the community for free. There is also Twice As Nice resale shop. It is a resale, but VERY reasonably priced. The proceeds from purchases go to fund the Denton Pregnancy Resource Center. If you are in Irving, you can contact Irving Bible Church as I am sure they can recommend great resources that are trying to meet the clothing needs of people in your community!

God's Grace to you,

Lisa :)

The Family Resource Center of North Central Texas provides pregnant women with prenatal education. They also provide gently used baby clothes, and baby gear. Their service is wonderful and truly a godsend to those of us who cannot afford the expensive classes provided by the hospitals or midwives.###-###-####

You could try thredup.com! It's not exactly a donation, it's an online clothing swap! You stuff boxes, list them and other members can choose them, you can also choose boxes of clothing your guy. It's not free, but is very cheap and pretty easy to do. I am not organized and rarely can plan things well but this has worked really well for me. Check out the site if you have some time.

I see you already received lots of suggestions. Since it is for a baby I would really encourage you to take them to a pregnancy center. I was an independent contractor when I got pregnant with my twins- I had no health insurance and I was put on bedrest. I don't know what I would have done without the pregnancy center. They are a wonderful resource!
