Hello! I am currently seeking advice on car seat. We have a 11 momth old son and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. We have two Britax Marathon seats along with our infant car seat. We are looking to get another car seat. We will put our infant in the Birtax seat when he is old enough, but are not sure what to het for our daughter. She is 31 pounds. What would you suggest?

What can I do next?

I;m not sure what car seat is best either, but I am about to have a baby, and wanted to read the responses to your question. A car seat has been one of the most confusing things to choose.

We love the Graco Nautilus. You can keep them in the 5-pt harness until they are 65 pounds, then it converts to a high-back or backless booster. We just switched it to the booster mode for our 5-1/2 year old (and he hadn't actually reached the weight limit for the harness yet). We have one for our 2-1/2 year old as well and she seems very comfortable in it. It has a nice cup holder and storage spots in the armrest. I just ordered one for my mom's car on Amazon for $145 with free shipping. Good luck with your decision!

If I had to buy a new car seat right now I would get the Graco Nautulus. It is for 20 to 65 lbs with the 5 pt, then a high back booster, then a backless booster. It is ver sturdy and not super wide!

I am also confused about needing another seat. My almost 4yr old still fits in her Marathon. Her 5yr old sister is in a Britax Regent. When we make the big switch to a booster for the 5.5 yr old, the younger one will use the Regent. My 5yr old is 44lbs & is tall. The Regent goes to 85lbs, but she will be starting kindergarten this fall & I am sure at some point over this year we will let her use a booster (she has been asking since she turned 5). We love our Marathon & our youngest will be in it for a bit longer :)

We have our daughter (2 yrs, 29 lbs) in a Britax Frontier and she loves it. It will transition to a booster seat and 100+ pounds, so we'll get a lot of good use from it. hipmonkey.com has a 15%off sale right now w/ free shipping, so it's a lot cheaper than Buy Buy Baby retail.

Why do you need another car seat right now? That Britax will work for your 2 1/2 year old just fine. I have a 3 year old and a 9 month old. I just put the 9 month old in the Britax (rear facing) and upgraded my son to a Graco Nautilux. It will stay with us until he no longer needs a car seat (it becomes a high back booster, then a backless booster). You can go to Buy Buy Baby with a 20% off coupon for that one. It is very highly ranked, too. My baby likes the Britax too. She was getting to cramped in the carrier...

T.,

You can't get any better than Britax as they are the best on the market. Your Marathon can be used rear facing for your little boy now if you're interested.

My children stayed in five point restraint seats until they were a minimum of 40lbs. just for their safety. We switched them when they were 4 & 6 years old. (My daughter is very small so we didn't want to switch the younger brother to a booster seat before she reached the 40lbs mark).

If you're interested I do have a Britax Wizard carseat listed on craigslist ____@____.com for sale. It can be used for children 5-65lbs.

Good luck and hang in there!

We are 100% satisfied with our Graco Nautilis. I know you are a fan of Britax, but the Graco is cheaper and just as good.

I'm not sure where you live, but at the Children's Hospital in Detroit there is a Safety Center store that can tell you exactly what you should have for your children. I would call them, they are trained professionals on the subject. ###-###-####

Hi T.,

When my daughter was ready to go from the infant seat to a bigger one I researched and researched and researched. It came down to Britax and Recaro. They are both about the same price, BUT Recaro can hold a larger child. I decided on the Recaro and I LOVE IT! It's easy to put in and take out, it seems super comfy for my daughter and I know it is safe.

Recaro is committed to seat safety. They began making seats for race car drivers! So...they KNOW seats.

Good luck.

I would bump your daughter up to the Frontier and let your 11 mo old use the Marathon. I would rear face the marathon until 2 yrs old unless he manages to get to the 35 lb rear facing limit before that. My daughter RF in her Marathon until around 26 mos and she was comfortable. My Mother in law has the frontier in her car and it works WONDERFUL! Plus the high weight limit means your daughter can use it for the rest of the time she needs a seat and still have a 5 pt harness for awhile :)
