Can You Recommend a Soft Baby Bedding Brand?

Mmkay, so we started registering for baby stuff, and I'm trying to find a soft crib bedding set that includes a fitted sheet, 2 valances, and maybe a dust ruffle, mobile, and quilt. Every single bedding set in Babies R Us was scratchy and cheap feeling! Can anyone recommend a bedding brand that is soft and high quality? We'd like a neutral modern pattern, probably with mod-style animals on it, and we'd prefer contrasting colors like green and brown or primary colors, not all pastels. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll check out Pottery Barn and see if I can buy things a la carte, otherwise I may just buy some used crib sheets and find valances and a mobile elsewhere.

I too was going to suggest PB. I LOVE their bedding. It is sooooo high quality. You can get great deals at the outlet in Birch Run. They make a really soft crib sheet-- it is almost like a blanket and my daughter loves it!

My mom had bedding from the john lennon collection. It was really nice, I also liked flannel fitted sheets bought separately.

Hi - I know that you already posted "how things went" but I wanted to second that most bedding is scratchy until it is washed.

Also, there were some mod-styles at Target in browns, greens, blues, etc. THey came separately I think, so you can mix and match, plus for a shower it makes it a bit easier for someone on a budget because they can get a piece of the bedding even if the whole set together is too expensive.

Congrats and good luck!

Probibly the best thing to do would be to get one you like... And wash it a few times... All the ones i've gotten at first do feel stiff and scratchy... But after use and washing they soften up quite a bit...

Even the high quality ones are going to feel scratchy until you wash them. They stiffen them up in the packaging so they look nice and don't get wrinkly.

There are some good options online. But I think you're going to be hard pressed to find exactly what your looking for at Babies R Us. I would try that store mentioned above or maybe something at Sommerset Mall.

In addition, as other moms have stated, after you wash them a few times they soften up. However, I found we needed more then just 1 sheet. Particularly once your little one gets sick. (don't forget the mattress cover to protect the mattress!!!) I did find a couple of sheets at Babies R US that are not part of a set. They are 'KidsLine'. They are more jersey type material and quite honestly, I use them instead of the sheet that goes with the crib set. I use the crib set sheet only when I have to.

Also .... just a little mom to mom info.... I have yet to use the quilt that came with our set. It has been draped over the rocker for 18 months now.... and there is stays. Occassionally my daughter plays with it... but other than that, it gets NO use. You don't put blankets over tiny babies (suffocation risk), and now that my daughter does use a blanket we have others (you get SO many baby blankets from people!!!) that I like better for her to use at night. Not as heavy, but still warm.

So, if you can find a place that will allow you to sort of choose your own set ... I would think twice about the quilt. Just our experience.

Theres a new baby store that opened up at Schoehnerr and m-59 called Buy Buy Baby. They may have what your looking for. To be honest there all crunchy until you wash them. Its the material and stuffing the way you make them soft is by fabric softner liquid. Not sheets that go in the drier. Or you make it yourself.Good Luck! Congradulations on your first baby!

Most new bedding will feel scratchy until it has been washed. It's how they make it look crisp and unwrinkled in the packaging. After you purchase your bedding you will want to pre-wash in a low chemical detergent (like Dreft) to get it ready for baby. Hope this helps!

Congratulations on your baby! I remember registering at Babies R Us. I also remember not getting very much of what I registered for but alot of what I needed. In addition to having mattress pads under the sheet, I also put sheet savers over the sheet - a row of three that overlapped. If baby blows out their diaper then you just change the sheet saver. If baby throws up over everything then you pull up the sheet with one mattress pad with everything rolled up inside (yeah, ew-but it is probably three am so we are looking for quick here) and put down a new sheet and sheet savers. Sheet savers work as really good changing pads in the diaper bag and they are bigger than what usually comes with the bag. But, that is more information than what you asked for. And, yes, washing all the bedding will make it softer as they do really starch everything so that it holds its shape in the packaging. Also, the best crib mobiles are the ones that are sold separately. Good luck on your journey!
