I am having twins in July and we are looking at buying a double stroller and car seats that can click into them. I have looked at all the common brand wedsites (graco, evenflo, ect.)and we are looking at over $400.00 for the stoller and car seats. Is there any websites I should look at before spending this amount of money?

What can I do next?

If you're not opposed to getting something second hand, you should look at craigslist.org. I've seen double strollers on there, but you may have to do some looking.

Congratulations on the twins!

look at Ebay.
There are at lot of good deals and what we've bought has been in excellant shape. another good web site, but I'm not sure
whether they would have strollers and baby seats, is overstock.com
also biglots.com or if you have a store in your area it is
worth the drive.

If you happen to go to Burlington Coat Factory (aka Baby Depot) as others have suggested, be sure to get their 10% off coupon in most baby/pregnancy magazines. They will sometimes have free "Baby Talk" magazines in the store with the coupon too.

It's not for strollers, but Daipers.com has great prices on diapers and other useful stuff.

Best of luck!!

www.craigslist.com is great. I got all of my stuff there. You can find some very nice people that just want to help out...well, I lucked out and did:) Just get model #'s and check the recall lists. If you google the model #, it will come up if there's anything going on with the product. Also, I highly recommend the Graco Duo Glider...has worked great for us!

Good luck and congrats on the twins!

I don't have twins- but have bought (and will continue to buy) a bunch off of ebay. I've never had a problem on ebay. Also, there's this website called "ebates.com" which offers discounts on many popular websites. Amazon.com frequently offers free shipping. As far as strollers go- I would check the local papers, garage sales, and talk to people at work or acquaintances of friends. That how I got some of my best deals; a coworker had a friend that was moving and needed to get rid of her baby stuff and I got a car seat with 1 base that locks into a stroller (Graco), a spacesaver highchair, 2 bouncy chairs and a play mat -all for $60. Also, in springtime, in a lot of towns there are big neighborhood garage sales where they will even print in the local paper listings of items that will be for sale and at what addresses so you know where to go- but you have to get there early!

check it often - a few times a day. Under kids/baby search with the word "twins". You might find cribs or other equipment and put the money you saved towards the carseats & stroller.
If you are not familiar, craigslist is like ebay - but it's all local (Grand Rapids area). I have seen SEVERAL double strollers on there, but you have to check the website often because items sell quickly.
GOOD LUCK

I have used the website www.craigslist.com. You can pick the city in which you are located and then look for items. Mostly it is parents who are selling items they are no longer using. I was on the website last weekend and did see some double strollers. Don't remember if they came with car seats, but I remember they weren't too expensive. Hope this helps. JH

Hi,
buy used things! You can get like-new stuff in consignment stores, at garage sales, on craigslist.com, even at thrift stores! Saves you money and keeps the stuff out of the landfill or wherever it would go otherwise ;)
There is also an organization "mothers of twins" that might have a chapter in your town. They have garage sale events and you could also make friends there and get some advice on twin related questions...

Before I had twins I found a double snap and go on craigslist for $10. Since you have a few months until your twins are born, wait on buying the big stuff. Search the classified websites (craigslist, ksl, ebay) for those things and see if any good stuff comes up for twins. I saved tons of money buying gently used instead of new. And with twins, every little bit helps!

Congratulations! My twins are 1 year old now and we were very worried about the cost of things as well. Some retailers will give a discount for large purchases for multiples; I believe Babies 'R Us/Toys 'R Us is one of them. We got our carrier car seats at Baby Depot in Burlington Factory store and got a decent discount. I was given a double stroller second hand so I don't know about that. I do know that the Mothers of Twins club has sales periodically; they have a website slmot.com that advertises when they have these sales, under the "Super Sale Info" link at the top of the page. Hopefully this helps, good luck!

Strollerdepot.com usually has great sales and their prices are always lower than other sites
Craigslist.com has alot of great used products for sale. Many of these products are hardly used-you have to be a bit diligent in asking questiosn and chekcing out the products, but you do save some money.
Ebay.com has lots of listings, and many options to "buy now" rather than bidding on the products.
Also, Babies 'R Us often has coupons that they send out on a regular basis. You can go to any store and sign up for the mailings if you are not registered there.
Good luck!

You should check Walmart or even Ebay. I have a 4 year old and a 4 month old and we found a lot of deals on stuff there. I can't imagine it is easy buyig for twins, it was expensive to get things that worked for toddlers and newborns. Another place I looked was rummage sales. Since you said you are due in July, you may be able to find some nice things in April/May/June. We went to a really nice subdivision around our house and found great stuff.
I just believe in shopping around.

Good luck and congrats on your double blessing.

First check out the closest Craigs List (www.craigslist.org). I've seen double strollers on there more than once.

Be super duper careful about the car seats though. Unless you know someone personally and are positive that the car seat has never been in a car that had an accident, you shouldn't take a second-hand car seat. At least that's the experts say.

There are two networks, Freecycle www.freecycle.org and The ReUseIt network www.reuseitnetwork.org that are groups where people are dedicated to helping others re-use/recycle ect. I am sure there is one in your area.

If someone has something that they are looking for (double stroller, for example) you can post a Wanted/Needed message for that item and if someone else has that item and wants to get rid of it, they will email you and arrange a pick up.

It works the other way also, if you have something that you no longer need, you can post an offer and interested people will contact you.

I have personally "gifted" some really nice baby items to members in my group. And you would be suprised how many like new items are given thru this group. It might be worth a shot for the higher priced items. I would suggest requesting a picture of the item before you pick it up, so you do not waste a trip to pick up an item that ends up not being what you wanted.

I had my twins almost three years ago and bought our Graco double stroller on Ebay. There are several ebay stores that sell them new. I first went to Babytown and looked at all the different brands/styles before deciding which one I wanted and then shopped for the best deal on ebay. One thing i would do differently is get the car seats with a more breathable fabric. Ours were like a nylon/cotton and always made the babies sweat like crazy. Make sure the car seat covers are all cotton!

have you tried overstock? I don't know how great they are on baby gear, but they have good prices. Also have you considered buying just a stroller frame for the car seats (Graco and BabyTrend make them). They're chaper than the full-on stroller. That could save on some expense right now. Check out www.craigslist.com. It is a website with online classified ads where it is free to list. You can select the area you live in so all of the ads are local. If you check it regularly along with other classified ads you can probably pick up just about everything you need at a really good price. My sister is expecting her first child and has done this. She had been able to get just about everything in fabulous condition at very low prices. This is also a good place to sell when you are finished using your equipment.

I don't recommend buying a car seat used, but just about everything else should be fine.

Congratulations on your twins! Mine are turning 1 in a week, and I know how expensive it can be to just get the gear you really need. As for buying the stroller, you should look into whether or not your area has a Mothers of Multiples Club and if there are any used ones in good condition. My area club has a garage sale every June and there are always several stroller/car seat combos. Personally, from a safety standpoint I would locate a used stroller (we have the graco system and it works great) and then buy the car seats new. Good Luck!

Congrats on the twins! I have twin girls who are 8 months old. I highly recommend the Graco Double Snap N Go stroller! It's simply a stroller frame the car seats buckle into, plus I got mine for under $100 bucks online. It makes transporting a breeze, plus it's a lot lighter than the stroller travel system, which makes hauling it in and out of the car easy, especially since I am out with the girls a lot by myself.

Babies R Us does give a 10% discount on items you buy two of, but it does not include clothes. I would hold off on buying two of everything, only the things you think you will really need (ie car seat, cribs). For example, one of my daughters liked the bouncy seat, where the other prefered the swing. you just never know.

Would be happy to chat more about life with twins if you are interested!

I looked at both Target and Walmart and they have a double stroller that you can just snap the car seats into for a bout $100...a little less at Walmart. Car seats seem to be about $60-70, so that would save you a little bit of money. Of course, it would mean buying another stroller when they outgrow their little car seats. Otherwise I would look at Craigslist.org...it would be used, but I've had good luck there. Check once a day at least, people are always posting new stuff. Good luck with your twins!

Hi P.,
I had boy/girl twins in May 2007. We decided to go with the Babytrend Double Snap N Go Stroller. It is a frame stroller where the car seats snap into it. It has been wonderful. You can get it at Target or Babies R US. It is only $99.99, but we use it all of the time and people even stop us and ask us where we got it. If you purchase it online, it should be free shipping as well (most places do this if it is over a certain amount of $$). I don't know what kind of car you have, but we have a Honda Civic and so we had to find a double stroller that would fit in our trunk and be easy enough to fold up and lift into it. It is very easy to use and lightweight. I LOVE IT. Anyway, we also got the Baby Trend Flex Lock Infant Car Seats (these are great and are highly rated with Consumer Reports). At Target they are $89.99 each, but you don't have to get the Baby Trend car seats to fit into the BT stroller. You can adjust the stroller based on the car seats that you purchase. I know that this would still be around $300 for you, but I have been SO happy with them.

Try to find any websites and things that you need before the babies are born. Afterwards, it is SO HARD!! :)

Please contact me if you have any other questions. I would be happy to talk to you more about having twins.
