Buying Diapers in Bulk

Hello Moms,
The time has come! I am adopting a beautiful little girl, 5-1/2 months old, and she will be here by the end of November! So needless to say I am in a scramble to get ready for her. I had heard that the easiest and cheapest way to buy diapers is online, especially since I am in Manhattan and don't have a car or a Sam's Club nearby. Does anyone have experience with this, or another idea? What site do you use?
She will be 6-1/2 months old when she comes home.
I am also interested in finding crib linens, formula and all the rest!
Thanks for any and all advice.
S.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for the great advice! Although it's still almost a month away, I feel that now, thanks to your help, I have one less thing to worry about! I will try brands first, as you advised, and then diapers.com it is! (there are no Walmarts or Targets in Manhattan, for those who suggested it.)
And thank you all for the warm wishes.

Congrats!!!!
Have you ever considered cloth diapering? A lot of people shy away from it thinking its a lot more works but with flush able liners ( to take care of solid waste w/o dunking) and one size pocket diaper/ all in ones, the work is minimal and it saves a ton of $$. Plus you never run out of diapers and have to run to the store, and cloth diapered kids potty train much earlier- my daughter trained at 18 months and it was so easy!
It is also way better for both the environment and for the Baby as there are no harsh chemicals near there skins.
If you are interested and have any questions please let me know, I would be happy to make recommendations on brands and tell you how to wash them ect.
Congrats and Best of Luck!

Congratulations!!! Just a thought about buying in bulk, at that gae babies can grow out of a size pretty quickly. So if you have the option to buy in bulk in different sizes, would be a better option. Good luck to you.

I also live in manhattan and buy everything at diapers.com. I have had people tell me that they are pricier than buying at sam's club, but with tolls in and out of manhattan totaling $10 plus the cost of gas, they would have to be super duper cheap.
Diapers.com delivers for free on orders over $75 and because they ship UPS from eastern PA, the boxes have always arrived overnight (for free).
And i buy everything there, diapers, wipes, breastfeeding supplies, i have even bought pacifiers, and ergo carrier, sippy cupys and books and toys from them. I love the site because it is so easy to use and it's convenient for me as we have a 24 hour doorman.
Good luck! And congratulations!

I've used diapers.com and have had good experiences with them. They have very fast delivery. You can usually find a coupon for $10 off your first order too.

First of all congratulations on your decision to adopt and to be a single mother. What a great journey you are in for. My suggestion, diapers.com all the way. Amazing, competive, quick next day to NYC and consistent. Next to that, I highly recommend BuyBuyBaby, only $15 dollars deliver in NYC same day.

Good Luck.

Congratulations! That is so wonderful and I'm sure the time will go quicker then anything. I wonder if you can't do an online registry at Baby's R Us or somewhere like that & just have the items shipped to you. I do a lot of comparison shopping and they were reasonable w/diapers, wipes, formula, etc. Good luck w/that precious little girl!

I do not have any recomendation for you as I was a coupon clipper and went where the deals were. However - I had to respond to the joy, excitement and pure love in your note that I sensed reading it. Motherhood is the most wonderful gift anyone could ever receive or have the opportunity to experience. I do not know you my heart fills with excitement as you anticipate the arrival of your baby. I wish you only the best and will tell you..........enjoy her - she will grow fast and you will potty training before you know it! Best of luck!

Congratulations- this wonderful and joyous news!

Just a quick caution- babies grow very quickly during the first year, so buying in HUGE bulk may be counter productive. My neighbor gave us several unopened boxes of Size 1's b/c she bought too many and her daughter outgrew them within two weeks!

Also, don't take the tags off of clothes until you need them- she'll outgrow those too!

My sister was surprised to find out late in her pregnancy that she was having twins and suddenly they needed two of many things. She found that Buy Buy Baby (like a Babies R Us) was cheaper than other stores. They have a bigger selection and deliver!
Have a great time and enjoy every minute with your peanut. Did you pick-out a name yet?

Diapers.com would be your best bet. There are usually $10 off coupons in some of the parenting magazines. I definitly buy in bulk - a box or two at a time. Depending on how the child grows, they usually stay in the same diaper size for a while. I go through about 1 box - 1 1/2 boxes of diapers a month.

Also, not all diapers are created equally. Before you buy in bulk, buy a small bag of diapers from the store to make sure that you like the diaper and it works well with the baby.

Good luck!

Diapers.com delivers I'm NYC within 24hrs of your order so you can buy one box of bulk diapers at a time and not stress over running out. They also sell smaller packages of diapers (if you want to comparison shop) plus bulk wipes bulk formula and others things. Also you should sign up at the enfamil website as well as similac, pampers and any other brand you might want to try. They send coupons and samples so you can give the products a try. Also ask your ped for recomendations and samples of things when you visit. It's a great way to try things out without waisting a whole lot of money. Plus you can join moms groups in your area and swap coupons and other things with them as well as get advice. Hope this helps & congrats!

I normally use diapers.com and drugstore.com, but recently went online again to find better prices... target.com had very good prices! I like the baby nature care brand and have had good luck with it. You may need to buy two boxes at a time to get free shipping.

Definitely consider cloth diapers. Do a little research to see if it's for you, but I've cloth diapered both my babies and it was super easy (as long as you have your own washer/dryer, or a diaper service available). Not gross at all, and there are no diaper pins either! Velcro or snaps. Like I said, super easy. Both kids potty trained around 18 months. Congratulations on your new baby! Hooray for all of you!

Diapers.com is great, if you've got a coupon. But, I've also found that if you're ordering enough items, you can qualify for free 'super-saver shipping' on Amazon. I just bought diapers, wipes, and A & D there, and it turned out cheaper than diapers.com. However, you CAN send in coupons to diapers.com ahead of time and use them towards your purchases, in addition to their coupons!
Target has good prices on clothes and other essentials, and I've found that WalMart is the cheapest overall, if you're buying it in store (are there any in the city?).

Also- don't forget about craigslist! Especially in the city, people are eager to clear out apartments from unwanted stuff, so used baby clothes that are in good condition, as well as things like pack-and-plays are great deals on there.

Many congratulations! My son is the same age- I can only imagine the fun you're going to have with her. Enjoy every moment, and please feel free to email with any other questions too!

Hi! I know my answer is a little late, but I just saw this.
I live in Queens, and we are on a budget. After looking at EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING.. surprisingly, Babies R Us has the cheapest diapers in bulk. I'm pretty sure they are in Manhattan. I hope this helps and God Bless you for adopting. I want to adopt our next child. Good luck with everything and enjoy!!!!

I have to reiterate what Parisa has offered...diapers in bulk @ say 150 at a time is a fair estimate...just because babies do gorw quickly, my daughter was a newborn size only three weeks, but she did go to a size two a week before her 3rd month, so she is going up a size almost every month.. best to weigh your new addition and try to gauge her size, you can get away with buying more of a size if she is on the early cusp (like if she's 11 lbs and the size 2's are 12-18 lbs.) just common sense.

Congratulations on the new addition! I know you'll do great!
