Breast Pump and Bottles

Hey Moms! We just found out I am pregnant with our second baby, after months of trying. We used the Avent pump and all the bottles and accessories with our first, but I was wondering if there is something else or better out there that we should try. I had no complaints with the Avent but will have to buy another pump for this baby regardless so if there is something better out there, I'd like to know. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I used the Avent Isis IQ Duo (double electric pump). It is fabulous and I will never ever recommend a Medela pump to anyone again after using this pump. This pump gives the user the most control over the settings and I recommend this to everyone who asks. As for the bottles, I used the Playtex Drop In System at first, but now I use the MAM bottles. They are really cute and its a pretty good system, I think. I dont know if the slow flow would be too fast for a newborn though. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am a huge Medela fan.

However, as another poster said, why are you switching pumps? Unless the Avent is broken, there is no need for a new one. Just sterilise what parts you can and buy new parts if needed.

I never even bought a pump. Mine is a Medela that was given to my by a friend who used it for her two children. I got it with my first and bought all new tubing, shields, bottles, etc. Then I just sterilised everything when I had my second.

I haveing been using the Medela Free Style and love it. I like the fact that there are many setting and that it is hands free so I can still get things done around the house and at work while pumping. It is also great for traveling. For milk storage bags I like the Lanisoh they seem to be made from thicker plastic and have a double seal. We are using the platex nurser with the drop in liners. I like the easy clean up. Hope this helps.

Why do you need to replace the Avent pump? I used the same pump with all 3 of my children (an Avent) with no problems. I sanitized all the peices and just bough new nipples for the bottles I already had. "If it ain't broke, don't buy a new one"

Congratulations on your good news. I just had my 3rd child last month and I have AVENT electric pump and it's the only one I have used with all my kids. It is durable and works just fine. I pumped twice everyday while am at work for my other 2 kids and I already have it out now to be sterilized and assembled for use once I return to work next month.

If it is not broken, please don't repair it. What I mean is you could still use your old AVENT, just replace the bottles and sterilize the component parts of the pump. Maybe it is just me but I think this economy is bad that we should conserve whatever we have unless it is of absolute necessity to have something.

I have the Lansinoh pump and I'm very happy with it. We use the Dr. Brown's bottles. :)

I started out with a Medela Pump in Style, but after using it every single day for about 8 months, it stopped working. It was a good pump... while it lasted.

Then I bought the Medela Freestyle Pump, which is the hands-free model that attaches to your nursing bra and belt loop. It was WONDERFUL!! With the other pump, I was stuck in one place and my hands were tied up for 15 mins to half an hour every time I pumped. But with the Freestyle I could hook myself up and actually get ready for work or answer emails or do other things around the house because my hands were free! It's more expensive than the other Medela models, but my freedom was worth it. I'll definitely be using it with the next baby.

Good luck to you and congrats!

I have tried both a Medela electric double pump and a Lansinoh manual pump and just loved the Lansinoh. I always seemed to be able to pump faster with the manual, even though the other pumped double. It was so easy to pack up and take with me and I didn't have to be near a power source to use it. We used the Dr. Brown's bottles.
If I have another child in the future I plan on using my Lansinoh again after sterilizing it. I would highly recommend the Lansinoh manual pump (just like all the reviews I read before purchasing one).

I did lots of research on breastpumps before I had my first baby and came to find Lansinoh had great reviews. I LOVE the Lansinoh pump and am using it now with our second baby. I have had it for 3 years.

I am using Dr. Brown's bottles. I used the drop in playtex with 1st baby not doing a whole lot of research then because I did not think I would be using bottles often with breastfeeding. I knew now the difference and we love the Dr. Brown's!

A double electric is the way to go.
Medela makes a few.

Main piece of advice after Double Electric is
to not buy from a company that makes formula...or has a sister company that makes formula...kind of a conflict of interest, no? Especially since they make loads more money off formula than pumps and the moms who use them.

Good luck with nursing and pumping! If you find yourself wanting Successful Pumping Tips you can -- of course post here -- but also you can call your local LLL leader for advice. Those ladies hear all sorts of things through phone calls and monthly meetings. They have access to lots of good information.

I am a big fan of the Medla pumps! I used it with my son and now I am using one with my daughter. They are great! A little more pricy than other pumps but when I asked around about good pumps this is what most of my friends recommended.

Depending on what your need is for a pump, you can look into either a Medela pump that is designed for "non-daily use" or get a version of the Pump in Style. You can pump into bags or right into bottles and it works great! Holds tremendous resale value as well because it NEVER seems to die, no matter HOW many kids have benefited from it!

I used the hospital grade Medela Symphony that i rented through Babies are Blessings with connie Blokkum. It worked AWESOME but i did end up purchasing my own later on which was not AS good since it's not hosptial grade but it worked much better than my manual avent and medela pumps. Mine is the pump in style from babies r us
