My daughter will be turning 1 and I am looking for a bakery in far north dallas, carrollton, or addison that specializes in children's cakes. Any recommendations or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I also am wondering what to do about food? I don't know alot of children so mainly alot of adult family members will be at the party. I would like to do goodie bags for the few children that come. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

We had my daughter's 1st birthday here at our house with mostly family. We did have a handfull of little kids at the party. I amde it very easy on every one and served finger foods. Deli style meats cheese and cresaunt rolls were the main dish. Along with fruits and some veggies with dip. For the little ones I put out some bowls of star puffs, gold fish, and raisens. Her theme was little princess. I found some really cute bibs in pink and blue that said litle princess/little prince. I gave one out to all of our younger guest along with a nuby sipper cup in matching color. I found a silver sharpie and wrote their name on the cup. Decor;;; I took coloring princess coloring to kinkos and blew up a picture of a castle. I then traced it out on foam board and colored it and put it on the fire place. It was set up for people to bring gifts to the castle for the princess. I took another foam board and traced out a tiera and attached it to her high chair. She wore a beautiful pink "easter" dress with a matching pink beaded tiera. All of the kids wore paper teira or crowns. For the oldr kids I let them color a picture of a princess or prince and they got to decorate their own tiera or crown. Our cake was really great. A friend of mine from church made it. She does a great job and everyone at church uses her. Her name is Teresa Daigle and her email is: ____@____.com
I hope your party turns out fun. Just remember to give your daughter a nap prior to the party so she is happy.
Good luck

There is a lady in Allen named Tanya who makes cakes out of her home. She does cakes for all kinds of occasions, and recently made the cake for my graduation party from grad school. If you email her, she will send you her web site address and you can see lots of pictures of her cakes. She is A DREAM to work with and does everything possible to make it a great experience.

Here is her email:

I can't help you with the cake, but the food, keep it simple. :)

First birthdays shouldn't be that big too, their just tots. :)

Maybe do a queso dip in a crock pot with chips would be great for a appetizers. I also have done those mini quiches and cheese and spinach tarts in the appetizer section. Maybe even wings for the adults and chicken nuggets for the kids.

If you do goody bags, do it age appropriate. I don't know how many times my children have come home with rock candy and things that are so chockable for a tot. The worst part for me with that, I had to take it away from them and see a fit ensue. LOL
For goody bags, if you have a theme, check online to see if they have a site for party ideas. One year I had little mermaid bags. I actually went online and printed out coloring pages, stabled them together and made them special by having the childs name on the front. I did the same with the bag. Also play dough is safe too.

Have fun with your childs 1st birthday. Those are so special!

Half the time at first birthday parties, the birthday kid doesn't even eat the cake. It's scary to them! I don't know about a bakery in the area, except maybe Whole Foods. Your daughter will likely be happy if there is some sort of toy on top. If you have time, you can order all your party decor and goodie bags at www.birthdayexpress.com. It's fabulous!
