I turn to you ladies for some advice. I go to the GYN on the 20th and I plan to be put on birth control. I am a bbw, so I know I can't get on the patch. I don't want the shot because I don't need to gain anymore weight, I need to lose some!! lol I want to get try to have another baby after this year, so I guess the IUD is out too. What other options do I have, over than the pill? I've been on the pill before and it's great...except I seem to forget to take it alot. Bad memory syndrome. lol But can you ladies suggest something else or perhaps recommend a pill for me. I'd like something that will also shorten my periods and possibly make it to where I only have a period every once in a while. Thanks!!

I have been on nuvaring since the birth of my son in May 2004. I love it!! My ob gyn is a huge advocate of it. My cousin and several of my friends are also on it. This was a good option for me because my grandmother had breast cancer and this is a very low dose of hormone, and you only have to worry about it once a month!! It also helps with hormonal mood swings and migraines. Ask your doctor about it. I highly recommend it.
The IUD is not totally out. It is good for 5 years but can be removed at anytime. I would talk with your doctor about it. The only down side to having it for a short period of time is, some women will bleed for a few months. It can be very light or heavy,its different with every one.
I had my baby Jan 11 2006 and we used condems because I didnt want to use the pill while nursing, I thought it might decrease the milk supply since I still nurse her. Finally I decided to get on the mini pill...a progestin only pill that allowed me to keep nursing and suposedly not diminish my milk. Well I guess because I wasnt nursing enough to counteract the pill or whatever (because you can not stay on it if you are NOT nursing) I turned up pregnant...but lost it only about 5 days after I found out...so I went to the doc and said I NEED SOMETHING STRONG...so I'm going with the IUD, the mirenna brand one. You go in to the doc on your 3rd day of your next period and they insert it (sounds yucky but thats his problem right?) The IUD is a inter uterine device and you can leave it in for up to 5 years and it has no estrogen for those that have breast cancer in their family history its good. Hopefully it works out good for us! Good luck on your decision and I know how you feel, condems suck and eventually you are not going to want to use one and then you will be in TROUBLE! HAHA:)
I'm on the patch all in all it is working for me. One patch one a week for 3 weeks and off one. that is when you have your period. The only problem I have with it is the lint from my cloths gets stuck on the edges. But as with any birth control it works different with other women. I would ask you doctor to see what they think would work best.
I was on bc pills for three years and decided and got off of them to have a baby. After my baby I started taking them again, but like you sometimes I would forget and then be paranoid. After having my second daughter, my GYN gave me the patch but with all the negative issue with that she wanted me off of it and give me an something else. We talked about my options and I decided to go with the ring. You insert one ring in your vagina for three weeks (you don't have to change it every week), on the fourth week you take it out and in a couple of days you start your menstrual cycle which only lasted me maybe three days. I loved the ring because it is something that you didn't have to remember to take everyday or change every week like the patch. I hope this helped.
I don't know if you would consider it, but NFP works very well - lower pregnancy rate than most types of birth control. NFP is natural family planning. It allows you to safely, without putting dangerous chemicals into your body, monitor your fertility cycle when trying to conceive or trying to avoid pregnancy.
Try Ortho Tri Cyclen LO dose. 3 day period's 4 at most. Get the 28 day pill pack, so for 7 say's you take Placebo, so you stay on track. Maybe take at night, if I forget to take mine, I can't sleep for the worry so I get up and take it.

I had the same problem with the pill, i would forget to take and so i was taking two pills every other day and getting my period for 7 days every two weeks. Now, i am using the Nuva Ring and I LOVE IT!! YOU insert the ring for 3 weeks and then take it out, disgard it and then are on your period for 5 days or so, then renew your prescription and get a new one for the next 3 weeks. It is so simple and just as effective as the pill. Talk to you OB about it, i am so glad i did.
I have the Nuva Ring, its great, you wear it for 3 weeks, take it out for one (period week) then put a new one back in. I haven't had any problems with it at all!
The other person in incorrect about the 4 periods a year, you get a period monthly just like the patch or pill.
Most ins companies dont pay for BC, this is about 40-50 a month, so right around what the pill would be.

Have you looked into Nuva Ring? A nurse at my GYN office said she loves it. It reduces her period to 4 times a year and it uses estrogen, just like the pill. I'm not on anything right now, so I don't know from experience. Sorry. I'm still getting over the Depo shot. ;)

ask the gyn for the ring (NUVARING) ive been using it for 2 years now and its pretty cool.. i had the same problem with the pill and with this its only once a month but the dr can give all the info..by the way it doesnt make you gain weight!! a big + in my books!! lol!
After my little girl was born I started using the Nuva Ring as birth control. I really like it because it isn't something that I have to remember everyday. You insert the "ring", kinda reminds me of those plastic bracelets I wore in junior high. Anyways you insert the ring and can leave it in for 3 or 4 weeks. You can do the traditional 3 weeks in and remove and have a period or you can leave in up to 4 weeks take out and insert another. And have a period whenever you want. I leave mine in for 4 weeks, take it out and have a period. I have tried just putting in another but my body won't let me go but about 5 weeks and then my period would be wanting to start. My Doctor says everyone is different. Some women can keep putting in new rings and have a period every few months. But I'm pleased with every 4 weeks. And when I do start, my period only lasts about 3 days. You can leave the ring in during sex unless it bothers you or your spouse. You can take it out for a 3 hour period with no worries. In the box it comes in it has little stickers to put on your calendar to remind you when you put a new one in and when to remove. I have absolutely no cramps!!!! and never have to use a tampon bigger than the regular size. Hope this helps. Good luck with your birth control search.
