We want to purchase a backpack carrier for my husband to use. We are looking for one that is most comfortable and lightweight. It will be used for my 14 month old boy, and we have another boy due in April. Any suggestions?

I had a Kelty carrier for my kids. (I was a by-choice single mom for the toddler era). I wore it myself and it's very light when you're the "donkey". I also liked that I could pack the entire diaper bag contents into the carrier. And, I could put it on, and put the kid in, unassisted.

They sell them at REI.

Good Luck!

I used the Ergo baby carrier, it functions as a front AND back carrier and carries up to 40 lbs or more. I've been very happy with it. It's a little pricier, but has better weight distribution than most and is easy to use. Don't know where they sell them around here, but you can find them online.

Buy buy baby in Plano sells them. I'm going to get one soon, I can't wait. The ergo only weights one lb, check out their website. Ergobabycarrier.com.

I highly recommend the Beco carrier (www.becobabycarrier.com). It works for babies 7-45 lbs and can be used as a front pack or back pack. I take mine with me every time I leave the house with my 20 month old. It's very similar to the Ergo that other mamas here have recommended, the main differences being that it is cut a little bit trimmer in the seat, and it comes in brighter colors and patterns.

If you'd like to try one out, I also run Babies Bottoms and More in Farmers Branch, TX. (www.babiesbottomsandmore.com) We have several Becos in stock and you are more than welcome to come with your baby and try it out! Peppermint baby store has closed their brick and mortar location - I saw someone below posted a link to their website, just FYI.

Good luck!

I don't have any advice on backpack carriers, but the Kid to Kid in Allen had several the last time I was there. The one close to you probably does too. Goos luck!

The ergo carriers are great, but my husband is very tall, so we went with a Kelty that we bought at REI. We love it, and so does our daughter. It's bigger, but still lightweight.

The Patapum is the best. I used it with my son when he was (a heavy) 1 year old on a trip that included tons of walking daily, including steep inclines, etc.. It was heavenly! It can used as a backpack or on the tummy. HTH!

The Ergo Baby Carrier is just wonderful! I carried my daughter until she was 2 and I was just too pregnant to wear her any more.

we have 2 boys 18 months apart and went to Brekenridge this summer. We went hiking and have 2 Kelty Backpacks...both were given to us and they are different models. Our oldest is pretty small weight wise and he loved it. my youngest was 6 months at the time and i carried both of them no problem...my husband said he could have hiked all day w/ it.
