Hello beautiful ladies. I just found out I am pregnant with our second child!!!! wooohoooo. We are already trying to think of names and so far, neither of us like what the other does. I was wondering if maybe some of you could give some suggestions, or tell me your favorites or names you think are really cool or unique. I dont know yet if we are having another boy or a girl. Thanks in advance

still debating. My wonderful hubby has said that if we have a girl he plans on pretty much giving me free reign to name her anything and if we have another boy he would like to have more of a say so...sounds fair enough to me..so we'll see

We had a notebook that we kept by the bed throughout my pregnancy. I would write a list of names I liked. Then, my hubby would cross off names he did not like and add some, etc. etc. Toward the end, we had 2 names left so we used one for his first name and one for his middle.

I used to take care of some twins. They were named Kendall and Taylor. I loved both of those names. She said they picked them because they liked both of them for girls or boys. I also love the name Isabella but it is this years kimberly or brittany lol. So just plan for 2 or 3 more kids with that same name if you pick it. for boys my grandsons name is ayden hunter. i love both of those also

Think about it for awhile and don't do anything weird. Don't make up a name.

Say it out loud to yourself 10 times and if it sounds stupid---let it go.

I watched the NCAA Championships last week. I am amazed at the names some people came up with for their kids. "Ta'shay" and "Sanoria" and "De-shawn" & many others....

give me a break! There are a lot of great names of there without making one up.

My daughter's name is Elliana. I was actually looking for an R name and couldn't get over this one. I did change the spelling from what is "traditional". Others I like are Joshua Boden Jordon (boy or girl) and Shayna.

Also if you like certain meanings you can do searches for names that way. For example Elliana means gift from G-d...story behind my pregnancy is that I was on BC and found out I was pregnant at 13.5 weeks. I did some crazy stuff while I was pregnant because I didn't know yet, but my daughter is beautiful and completely healthy...a true gift from G-d!

PS-I just wanted to respond to the person who was talking about "made up" names...most of those names are just from different cultures (aka not white names), and I think its cool to consider names from around the world!

Since I did not get my 3rd boy I will throw out the name we would have used...

Cash Thomas

For girls, I like Kendell or Jules... but we went a different way.
~I love Piper too!

Good Luck! Naming was (I thought) the hardest part of pregnancy for me :)

*Just wanted to add not to put too much stock in what/if any the nickname might be...we went with Gillian for my daughter because my hubby wanted to call her "JillyBean"...she is now 2 and we NEVER call her that...somewhere along the lines it got shortened (by hubby)and now my beautiful (and only) girl is called "Bean" by EVERYONE in our family. Sometimes these things happen...

I also think you should say it with your first child's name to ensure they go together.

Congratulations Susan! That is wonderful! I am really not good with names and my husband is actually the one that came up with our kids names (except for my daughters middle name since it is mine too) lol. I do know that he was trying for different names that not a lot of people had. Our daughter wasn't too terribly different. It is Kylie Marie. But, our son is the creative one. My husband is part Irish and part German so he wanted a name that wasn't popular but yet represented his heritage so he came up with Bannon Shea. I know those are just two names but maybe the way he came up with them will help you out. He searched the internet for names that weren't exactly first names but sometime last night and came up with it that way. I don't know if that helps but maybe it gave you an idea. Good Luck and Congratulations!

For boys, I tend to like names that end in "er," such as: Carter, Tucker, Cooper, Parker... For girls, I like: Layla (who wouldn't want to be named after an Eric Clapton song?), Elanor Ruth, and Stella Elizabeth.

Please don't pick a name that is not easily pronounced. As a teacher, I find that students are very offended if you say thier names wrong, and can get quite an attitude if a mistake is made. Think of how many times your name is called by a stranger and imagine needing to "educate" them on how to say it properly. If you need to add a key to let readers know how to say the name, you should probably think of something else. Oh, and please stick with the normal spellings. My parents went with K. with an E and I could never find hair bows with my name on it since most girls with my name spell it as Kristin with an I. My principal still gets it wrong every time she writes me an email.

We wanted unusual names, so I spent a lot of time on the Social Security Administration's website seeing what popular names were. If they were anywhere close to the top 100, I went another direction.
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

We ended-up choosing very unpopular names (I choose not to post them on the internet for security reasons). Some people love them, others hate them (such as my mother).

Congrats! We had a hard time picking names as well!! My "other-half" (as I like to call him) was married once before and both his ex-wife and two older daughters names all start with "K". I had so many K names I liked but thought it would be weird to name our daughter with a K name as well. I'm also a dance teacher (and teach all girls) so I have many "name associations".
We wanted something different but not too crazy and finally I found the name "Finley" under boys names...we changed the spelling (more feminine) and named our daughter Finleigh Ella! We love it, and it fits her! Here were some names we still like:

McKinlie
Kenlie (I loved this one!)
Brynne
Brielle

For Boys we liked:
Ryder
Carter
Carson
Bryson
Sawyer
Colbe (this would have been our pick for a boy. It's my great-grandfather's name...but it sounds so modern)

There are a lot of nice names. I went through the baby name books/websites and made a list of first and middle names that I liked and let my hubby veto the ones he didn't like. it made it a lot easier than fighting over the name back and forth... although we still managed to do that. ;)

I have two daughters (Alyssa Nichole and Ryan Alivia) and a son Colin Riley. I was very nervous about naming my daughter Ryan but I have gotten so much positive feedback on her name that I am glad I chose it. We actually had people vote on her name at the hospital when they came to visit. Ryan Alivia beat out Julia Ryan by a long shot. I would have loved to used the name Kennedi Ryan but a friend already claimed it.
