Has anyone used a baby backpack - the kind with the aluminum frame that you can use to take the baby hiking, etc?

Can you recommend brands or types, comfort level, etc etc? We're going to look into getting one and I have no idea which are good/bad etc. Also - if you have one that you are looking to sell please let me know type and price.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi. I have an instep backpack /stroller just like this one http://www.babyuniverse.com/pro.asp?id=27537&rc=froog.... I loved it and used it while we went to new mexico. However, our DD started walking at 10 months and hated being in any stroller. We bought it for $90 but willing to sell it for $60. It is in its box and looks brandnew. I live in Coppell and you can email me at ____@____.com if you are interested.

I used this Gerry brand (years ago) and loved it:

We later bought a nicer Kelty one at REI, but the it was not comfortable for me at all - the frame was too large. I'm 5'3", but it worked well for my husband whose 6'3". So, we used that one when we all went somewhere together and I used the Gerry. I loved it for around the house, as I could cook dinner and even vacuum with my son up there. He actually really liked the vacuuming.

If you're going to get one of these, get a Kelty. I'm a Texan that has spent time in Colorado hiking in the Rockies... trust me... if you're going to hike with little ones, get one MADE for hiking. If you want to try them on, go to the Grapevine Mills Mall and to that Sun and Ski store ... they usually have 3-4 different Kelty models. I got mine off e-bay used once and LOVE IT.... you can put in the differnet measurements and such and see which one will work best for what you need.

hello-
i got a hand-me-down gerry backpack exactly like the one listed below. i really did not like it. we do lots of hiking - 3-4 hours on rough terrain. the straps dug into my shoulders and my son's weight was not distributed very well. the lower aluminum bar allows your child to put his feet on it. my little guy would then stand up and his weight would shift funny. it also did not appear to be very comfy for my son. my husband had the same problems when we switched off.

all that said, it is inexpensive and incredibly light. i guess it depends on what you are going to do with it. we are still searching for a better one too:-)
