Annoying Phone Calls on My Cell

Does anyone know how to make those annoying phone calls stop from that company that calls saying in an automated voice 'warning, the factory warenty on your vehicle has expired...'??? I get it daily and the number they call from changes. It is getting EXTREMELY annoying, not to mention eating up my minutes.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried waiting out the message and pressing the corresponding key to 'remove me from your list' only to get a call again the next day. That time, I remained on the line to talk to a representative. I informed the rep that I did not want to receive any more calls from them ever again and threatened to sue. Knock on wood, this seemed to work. I haven't received a call since! Thanks for all the advice and I'm glad I'm not alone!

Call the number back and complain and have them remove you from the list. This was happening to my husband and since he called them back, the calls have stopped.

I just finished dealing with that. The do not call list won't help at this point. you need to threaten them. the next time you get one of those calls stay on the line and follow the instructions to speak to a representative. When you get someone on the phone tell them that you know they are running a scam and you want them to stop harassing you. Then tell them that you’re keeping a log of every time they call you and are going to start billing them $500 for each harassing call (there is an actual legal basis for that figure that I won’t go into here). The representative will probably hang up on you at that point (that’s what happened to me). I only had to make that threat twice before they stopped calling. The second time I started rattling off dates that they had called me (it helps to have a log) and told them that I wanted to speak to someone with the authority to cut me a check for the bill I was preparing. That was 2 months ago and I haven’t heard from them since.

Try www.donotcall.gov - I registered all my numbers on it, and...knock on wood... I never get calls on my cell phone and very few at home. Most of what I get at home is political which, unfortunatly is exempt from the list.
Hope this helps.

We have the same calls on our home phone. The "do not call" list doesn't work & asking to be removed doesn't work. I've had really rude responses when I've asked. The bottom line is that these companies are scam operations and don't abide by the rules like legit businesses do. Sometimes I press "1" to talk to someone and then stick the phone next to a blaring radio...I plan on getting a really loud whistle to use on 'em. :o) You don't want to waste cell minutes, though, so I'd just not pick up the phone if it's a number you don't recognize.

I have called some back if they have a number and asked to be removed, but sometimes u have to worry about charges, etc for that too! I think there is a # to call about junkmail and phonecalls tho...maybe someone will suggest that!

Annoying is right, and at really odd times too. Depending on the message, if you listen to the very end, they sometimes tell you to hit '9' to be removed from the list. I did this with one number and I 'think' it may have worked. I still get about 2-3 other annoying calls. Good luck.

I don't have an answer, but a good opportunity for me to vent! I am a teacher and several, if not most, teachers at my school have been receiving this call on a daily basis. We can't get it to stop! It's very frustrating to interrupt a lesson and get that stupid recording. I would ignore it, but the phone reads "outside line" and it could be an urgent phone call from parent or a family member. I get this message on my cell as well.

I just wonder who the idiots are who actually respond to this solicitation and sign up for the service!

Dear J.,You should register your phone number at the National Do Not Call Registry (go online). I did that and I'm so glad now cause I don't receive those calls any more from any of those phones. It's free to register. Go for it!

Hi J.,
I just wanted to warn you-- the Do Not Call Registry is not going to solve your problem-- I have both my cell and home phones registered and still get this call from time to time (not daily, thank goodness!) we may all have to suffer till the call Prsident Obama by random chance, and then something will be done! 8-)

Put your number on the do not call list. Also, if you wait through the message, there is a prompt that you can press to be taken off their list. I did this, thinking I had nothing to loose. The calls stopped!

I hate those! I get them all the time. Let me know if someone has a solution!!

Edit: I was just reading all the other responses, and I have tried pressing the opt out button, many times, and still get the calls all the time. I say I'm gonna sue, they still call,I've talked to people, they still call....I'm on the donotcall list and I still get called, so if someone has a solution that actually works, plz let me know as every time they call I get more and more likely to throw my phone in a lake!

Its an epidemic - everyone I know gets them, some of them 5-10 times a day!

If you let the "message" play out, there will often be an option at the end to be taken off the calling list - unfortunately, you actually have to answer the darn call and listen to it to completion in order to access that take me off the list.

you cannot stop them. Do not answer if you do not recognize the phone number and they will eventually stop calling. I never answer unless I know who it is so if a friend has a new number have them leave you a message the first time they call.

Not sure how to block the call but you should ask your cell company. I do know that that is a scam.

I registered all our numbers at http://www.donotcall.gov. I've never gotten another call (other than charities, etc that are approved... like the Fraternal Order of Police).

I've put my cell number on the donotcall.org site and haven't received as many of them. I also wait until the end and push the number to be removed. Some of them you have to pick to speak to someone and then it will give you the option to be removed (we get a lot of these at work). The big problem is, if you wait too long for the remove prompt you can't choose the original option to speak with someone (if it is the one where you have to press the speak to one).

Currently you cannot stop it, but they are looking into prosecuting the company that does it. It's all done by robocalls and there isn't a person who is actually making the calls. The FTC is suing them.

Hi J.,
Definitely pick up the phone and speak to someone....a REAL someone. Tell them you want to be taken of the call list and if they call you one more time, you will file suit for harrassment. If they tell you it will take time to get you off the list you and you may receive phone calls for another several days or weeks, repeat again, if you call me one more time, I will file suit for harrassment, so I suggest you find the right button to push to take me off the list. They can and will make sure you don't get any more calls. Then report them to the Better Business Bureau. They don't want to be reported any more than you want the phone calls. Best of luck to you!

I am getting those, also. They're so infuriating. I called their number and tried to find out who and where they are, but they're cagey: they won't tell you. I was trying to get info about them in order to report them to the federal "do not call" database. If you get on the "do not call" database, telemarketers are supposed to leave you alone. I have complained to the "do not call" web site, but it hasn't helped.

I am receiving these type calls as well but on our home phone. The calls I am receiving are coming from an area code in Canada. Unfortunately their "Do Not Call List" is only for Canadian residents and not U.S residents.
Have you checked with your cell phone company if they can do anything? If nothing else credit you back some of the minutes. I know it is extremely frustrating, especially when the consumer can't do anything about it.

J.,
Two things that have worked for me for both my cell and home numbers.

First, list your number on the National Do Not Call list.

Second, take the couple of minutes to listen through the message - they should give you an option (usually 2 or 9) to get off their list. Since I started listening to all the calls and pushing the opt-out response, my 'junk' calls have gone down by about 60%.

Good luck - J.
