Hello moms,

I am having a difficult time finding a costume to fit my newborn. Does anyone have any good suggestions. I have looked at babies r us and on-line, and am going to go to the halloween store. I really like the Tom Arma but the smallest are 6 months. Has anyone bought something big and had it altered?
Any ideas would be great.

Thanks!!

Try Target, Walmart, Disney.com, or Old Navy. I have recently found costumes for babies at all of them. I have a 4 month old that needs a costume. I just have not decided what I want him to be yet. Good luck!

A catalog called Sensational Beginnings (sensationalbeginnings.com) has a lot of costumes for all ages, including newborn. My daughter was 2 1/2 months old last Halloween and I found a cute scarecrow one in there. You should be able to find something there, or try ebay.

Check The Children's Place. I have gotten several costumes there and they are very good quality for a reasonable price.

This may sound crazy - but my girlfriend actually bought a costume for her 2-3 month old from Build-a-Bear last year. She bought the pirate costume for bear and it fit her son - you would have never guessed that it was really for a bear!

This place has costumes for 3 month olds. Also check the Disney store directly. You don't want a costume too cumbersome...especially the hood/hat. Have a boo-ti-ful Halloween!

Do you live near a Von Maur? I bought a costume there for a friend's baby last year. They had quite a few for little ones.

Try one step ahead. You can order on-line or have a catalogue sent to order from. They have a partner company that I cannot remember the name of that has many costumes as well. It has been a while since my children were that little.

A while ago I found an ear of corn costume on e-bay that I think was 3-6 months. I think it was from Old Navy, which makes me think maybe Old Navy has stuff there. :-) If you didn't already try e-bay, I sure would!

Hi V.,
I think you could probably still get the Tom Arma you want. I checked out their website and the 6-12 month category is still pretty small. Did you check out the sizing link on the site? The measurements for 6-12 months are pretty small. I also noticed that if the costume number begins with RM, then the measurements are even more specific. If your two month old is 20" inches long, he will probably be fine in a 6-12 month costume depending on the style you want. Our little one is already 26" inches long and he's 4.5 months. So I think we would need to go up to the next size even though he doesn't meet the age requirement....he's just long. So, if you haven't checked out the specific sizing info, give it a shot...these seem to run small. Just my opinion. :) Hope this helps. Otherwise, you can check out One Step Ahead costumes...I have puchased from them before for one of our other boys when he was a baby. Good Luck! :)

I got my daughter's costume at The Kid's Closet in Rochester. She's almost 18 months. I don't know if there were newborn outfits there or not. But it would probably be worth the trip or at the very least a phone call.

If you're just looking to get cute halloween photos, I would suggest finding a portrait studio near your home (Sadies, Portrait Innovations, Picture People, JC Penney, Sears). They all have "props" for Halloween. Don't waste your money on a costume this year.

I bought a really, really cute 0-3 month Pooh sleeper last year at Sears (this is a sleeper with a hood, but it's basically a Winnie the Pooh costume). You can check to see if they still have them.

have you looked at a 2nd hand kids' store?? We shopped at one last week that actually had a 3 month size kitty costume labeled as a doll outfit. Or maybe speaking of dolls, you might look for a doll outfit, especially if she isn't too big. Walmart has a nice selection of onesies, etc that could work for a costome. Be creative and dream up someting on your own made out of a onesie or gown. Decorate a hat..... flip thru a mom magazine for some ideas or walk thru a fabric store for ideas. Godd luck J.

Try craigslist.com - I have seen tons of "used" (what's that, worn once, maybe twice at the most?) costumes for all ages, including little ones. And the prices are good too. Good luck! J.
