Hi everyone! My son will turn 1 in a few weeks and I'd love your personal opinions on what the best toys are to engage/teach/entertain a 12 to 18-month old boy. Bren is crawling but not walking and is very verbal. His favorite toys WOULD be my car keys, my cell phone, the television remote and his dad's MP3 player. What he plays with instead (and enjoys) are beach ball, entertainment tables, fisher price radio, the family cats, and little people toys. All suggestions are welcome!

Maybe get him a walk-behind/push toy? He'll use it when he begins to cruise and walk, then when he gets a little older he can sit on it and ride it.

If he loves your gadgets (like the MP3 player) he might enjoy the "Parents My Mp3 Classical Music MP3 Player"

My friends son has one and he loves it!

My favorite gift for a one year old is one of those learning tables-- where they stand up and push buttons, turn pages, etc.

My son just turned 1 in July. He loves loves loves the fisher price learn & play kitchen, although after reading a lot of reviews (after purchase) I have heard that the learn and play home or house is better. I plan to get that one next, but my son is always in our cabinets, loves the kitchen sink and fridge, so we went with the kitchen and he plays with it ALL the time! So far the best buy yet! We also bought him recently the fisher price learn and play cash register, he loves it too, but it really is for older kids. He just loves to push the buttons on the register and scanner and I had to put the fake coins away so he didnt put them in his mouth.

Hope this helps! Good luck and congrats on his first year! Yes it goes by WAY to fast!

My little guy loved a push toy/walker and a cell phone and set of keys (made by Parents brand) around his 1st b-day.

Now that summer is almost over, this may be a silly idea but at that age our daughter LOVED the sand/water tables. I think ours is by Step 2. Just a note, we have not used sand in ours yet (too messy and our daughter would either eat it or throw it around).

Also, since he likes balls, what about a play basketball net?

I know your request specifically said "toys" but I'm a sentimental person who's also big into the holidays and personalized items, so I thought I'd throw some other ideas out there. We got one of those personalized birthday plates for her to eat her cake on each year. We have also bought her a personalized ceramic pumpkin and a ceramic snowman (both light up). On the pumpkin, her name is carved into the mouth and on the snowman, her name is carved into the tummy area. I got them at ceramicscraze.com. The website does not show everything she has, but you can email and get sample photos sent to you. Best of luck!
