Hello everyone -
I have 10 month old twins that absolutely refuse to eat any kind of table food. They eat baby food with no problem, but either spit out table food or clamp their mouths shut so I can't get any food in. I have tried mixing it with baby food, tried it warm, cool, on a spoon, leaving it for them to pick up. Nothing works. I try to give them foods that they have eaten as baby food so I know they like the flavor. It seems to be the texture thay don't like. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting them to eat it or do I just wait it out and hope they catch on eventually? Thanks

What can I do next?

ah twins. They can be so much fun. At 10mnth and not eating table food isn't bad. take a break from table food and try again in a mnth. Do you feed them together or apart? If you can try them apart. They look at each other for support. Apart they might be more likley to try something new.

Best of luck.

Are you giving them the stage 3 baby foods? They're a combination of baby food as well as the new textures and chunks that they need to get used to.

If you're already using stage 3, then it really doesn't hurt to just stick with it a little longer. Save yourself the frustration, and don't worry, they'll catch on. When my twins were about ten months old they suddenly stopped eating baby food, and I was stuck trying to prepare 3 healthy, baby ready meals a day for them, which can be kinda tricky. Either way, it's a transitional age for foods, so just roll with it.

My daughter let ME know when she was ready for "real" food. Why are you trying so soon to get them to eat solids? They don't even need that food until after they are a year. So, you have two more months to allow them time to warm up to "real" food.
Also - I made my own baby food, so my daughter ate the solid version of it without problem.
If you were buying it already mashed, it most likely does not taste exactly the same its actual whole counterparts.

Hi Everyone

I am also wondering what people have as advise as my 16 month old is the same way. It is also hard to get baby food in him some days. The dentist we took him to said he is probably holding the food in his mouth which makes him gag as well as all of the teeth he has and is continuing to get.

A friend suggested talking to my sons doctor again and if need by see an eye, nose and throat pediatrician to rule out something worse.

Hope this helps.

A little about me:
I am a married full-time office manager with a 16 month old son.

Let them try a few Cheerios.

My daughter ate baby food until she was almost a year old. She just couldn't handle regular food until then. She's 2 1/2 now, healthy and eats well. Maybe you could grind/puree some of the food in the meantime? The cheerios idea someone else mentioned sounds good, too.

J.,
My advise to you is to try not feeding them yourself and place the food items on their highchair trays or in baby dishes and go from there. Most infants don't want to try anything that they are somewhat being forced to eat. I had the same problem when he was an infant and thats what someone had suggested to me. He is now 20 and has a very little menu of things he will eat but does try something new from time to time. When I had my daughter who is now 8 I did what I was advised when my son was and infant and I had no problems.

Good Luck
J.
